A program of events for the 50th annual convention of the Louisiana Education Association and Louisiana Congress of Colored Parents and Teachers, focusing on the theme, "Education for Human Rights." A lengthy program of events is included, as well as biographies of more notable attendees and speakers. This includes James Madison Nabrit Jr. a prominent Civil Rights lawyer and president of Howard University; Moss Hendrix, a pioneer in the field of public relations, who worked to get companies to market their products to Black audiences. The event was held at the Booker T. Washington High School in Shreveport. GOOD condition. Moderate foxing and toning to the covers, with minor soiling and staining. A lithograph poster made from a photo of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. and Malcolm X. Printed by Julian Richardson, perhaps best known as the founder of Marcus Bookstore in San Francisco, a store that served as a meeting place for Black artists in San Francisco, as well as a gathering place for members of the Black Panther Party. FAIR condition. Heavy browning to the paper, with faint dampstaining along the top and bottom edge. A few other ink stains and stains present, as well as general soiling. Creasing and wrinkling present, mostly along the extremities, along with several bumps, dings, chips and small tears. Pinholes at the corners and tape at the upper left corner. Revolution in Our Lifetime. Spurgeon 'Jake' Winters Poster

Chicago, Illinois Chapter of the Black Panther Party, Presumed Publisher. Unbound. Illinois Chapter of the Black Panther Party, Presumed publisher. No place or date, perhaps Chicago, circa 1969/1970. Single sheet of medium weight paper stock. 25 by 18 inches. A poster commemorating the life of Black Panther Party member Spurgeon 'Jake' Winters. Winters was killed by police in a shootout on November 13, 1969, a few weeks before Fred Hampton was assassinated by police. The killing of Winters led the Black Panther Party to establish a free health clinic in Chicago bearing his name. Some of these events were portrayed in a fictionalized version in the 2021 film, Judas and the Black Messiah. The poster includes Winters' birth and death dates (Nov. 12, 1950-Nov. 13, 1969) and the quote, "He who swings the mighty sword for the poor oppressed people is a revolutionary in deed and will make great contributions to world peace and the liberation of mankind!" Black Panther Party of Chicago address and phone number present, as well as three small panther logos. VERY GOOD condition. A few minor wrinkles and creases present. Stokely Is a Riot Pinback

No Place, No publisher. Unbound. No publisher, place or date. Presumed mid to late 1960s. Measures 1 ¼ inches in diameter. Dark yellow background with reddish brown printing. A pinback promoting Stokely Carmichael (Kwame Ture) and his work. Ture was a civil rights leader and Black power activist, chairing the SNCC, and promoting the idea of Black power, raising awareness to the term and its ideology. The pin itself may refer to the 1968 Washington DC riots that occurred after the assassination of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. The FBI tried to tie him to the riots, and its COINTELPRO branch planted the idea that he worked for the CIA, leading to a break between him and the Black Panther Party. By 1969, Ture lived in exile in Africa. VERY GOOD condition. Minor soiling and rubbing. Light rusting to the reverse. Very Good .

A record booklet used by collection agents of the Colored Funeral Service Association, an association that provided insurance payments for funeral expenses for African American funerals. Front cover lists B.W. Williams as president, Will Kennon as vice-president and Dorothea Talley as secretary of the organization. Signatures of Kennon and Talley at the bottom. Interior filled with contract numbers, benefit designation and fee numbers, as well as the signature/initials of the collector. GOOD condition. Horizontal crease along the top.
