The front cover show some yellowing. Interior with signs of wear. The staples show some rust. Good condition overall.; "The object of this small booklet is to set out in simple language, for all that may be interested, the chronological story of Chinese porcelain. Particularly for the use of collectors, short descriptive notes on each of the main types of ware have been included. One of the great attractions of Chinese porcelain is the innumerable problems that can arise, especially of the notes herein, and more so those in the chapters on the later porcelains, have been specifically set down to assist in this fascinating problem of dating, with accuracy. Appendices have been included giving Chinese historical dates, their Emperors' reign marks, and the meanings of the more commom decorations to be found on porcelain; readers will find the historical dates to be a great help in the full appreciation of the long ages down which porcelain, and, indeed, the whole range of Chinese art, has slowly been perfected." excerpt from the preface. Enlarged and reprinted edition of the original edition published in 1949. Good/No Jacket.

WRIGGLESWORTH, LINDA; IN ASSOCIATION WITH MYERS, MYRNA
Where Antique Korean Textiles Meet Contemporary Art
Linda Wrigglesworth, Ltd. London. 1997. Soft cover. Book, English text; 18.5 x 18.8 cm; 0.495 Kg; 59 loose leaf cards with text by Linda Wrigglesworth inside what looks live an envelope. 46 colour plates, each with caption and text; Asian textile dealer catalogue; Used with signs of wear, namely a small tear on the envelope. The outside edges are slightly bent. The cards are in good condition.; “I have been struck by the rarity of these textiles, sourcing most of my pieces in Korea (.). Korea, like Japan, was a very closed society and pieces were never brought out of Korea by Western travelers in the same quantities as they were from China. Korean textiles also had a great sentimental value, being treasured by the families who owned them. I (.) am delighted to have found as my other source, Myrna Myers of Paris who with her husband Sam have collected Korean textiles for many years. Their collection is proudly part of this exhibition. Korean costume and textiles are a subject worthy of recognition in the worlds collection today. Rank badges are almost impossible to find, costumes even more so. Our collection of badges is indeed one of the largest on the open market.” excerpt from the text accompanying the catalogue by Linda Wrigglesworth. Good.

BANDINI, LUIGI (CATALOGUE); WRANGHAM, E..A. (INTRODUCTION ESSAY); ESKENAZI (ED.)
The Charles a Greenfield Collection of Japanese Lacquer
Eskenazi, London. 1990, 1st Edition. Hardcover, with dust jacket. Book, English and Japanese text.; Hardcover (with dust jacket).; 22 x 30.5 cm.; 1.6 Kg.; 245 pages with colour illustrations. 141 catalogue entries. Used with signs of wear on the exterior and interior. The dust jacket that has a tiny tear on the top left side of the front cover and wear marks on the top of the back cover. Good condition overall. ; Catalogue from an exhibition held from 20 November to 7 December 1990, with 141 catalogue entries from The Charles A Greenfield collection of Japanese Lacquer.; "All of the pieces on this catalogue are those which formed the major exhibition held in 1980 at The Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York and the vast majority were in the prestigious exhibition 'The Magnificient Tree', at Japan House Gallery, New York, in 1972. Some have also been included in further museum exhibitions: 'Birds, Beasts, Blossoms and Bugs' held at the Univeristy of California in the Fredericks S. Wight Art Gallery in 1976 which continued at Asia House, New York, 1977. As this collection goes back so many years, it is not surprising to find that several of the pieces once belonged to the great connoisseurs of Japanese art, from the turn of the century. Mr Greenfield's meticulous notes have proved invaluable in compilling this catalogue, as has the Metropolitan Museum of Art's book of the 1980 exhibition by Andrew - now sadly out of print - to which we often refer. There are objects here from Gilbertson, Tomkinson, Yamanaka, Hayashi, Gonse, Bing, Vever, Mosle, Orange, Trower, Behrens, Gaskell, Hawkshaw, Rienaecker, Kitson, Bushell, Harari and Bess. Some boxes and inro were originally acquired from the collections of John Piermont Morgan, the American banker, and Efrem Zimbalist, the violinist. The Korin inro decorated with bellflowers reflects the influence Japanese art had on its previous owner: Louis Confort Tiffany (1848-1933), the famous Amarican designer. At the same time is worth noting that the name of Louis Cartier also appears as a provenance in this catalogue. The names of Bishop and Rogers deserve a mention too; they will be remembered for their donations of fine Chinese works of art to the Metropolitan Museum of Art." excerpt from the foreword by Luigi Bandini. Some examples are powerful and monumental - the large pair of high continuous yoke-back armchairs (page 20); the large square corner cabinet (page 124) and the long zhuo table (page 130). Some are striking in purity of line, the high waste incense table (page 46) and the pingtouan table (page 40); and exquisite carved works dazzle in the phoenix spandrel table (page 96), the lingzhi motif simianping zitan table (page 58) and the very rare display shelves for usage on a kang. The burl wood doors sloping-stile wood-hinged cabinet (page 54) and the zitan small square corner cabinet (page 114) are the very embodiment of elegance and refinement while perfection of form, design and execution are amply demonstrated by the three apron-spandrel to one leg yitui sanya banzhuo table (page 86), the clothes chests (page 90) and the horseshoe armchair (page 50). Eight-immortals tables (page 76 and decorated square corner cabinets (page 104) in pairs are exceedingly rare, not to mention the superb, encountered but "once in a life time" large pair of high yoke-back armchairs (page 34), which presented an irresistible challenge for the author to acquire for inclusion in this collection even though at the time, this catalogue was already in its final state of of preparation." excerpt from the foreword by Grace Wu. Chinese Ceramic Vessels 500 - 1000 Ad
Eskenazi London. 2001. (ISBN: 1873609116). Soft cover. Book, English text.; Paperback; 21.5 x 30 cm; 0.3 Kg; 47 pages with colour illustrations; Used with minor signs of wear on the exterior and interior. Very good condition overall.;. Catalogue from an exhibition at Eskenazi, London, from the 8 to the 30 of November 2001.; "Chronologically the catalogue starts with a very fine and extremely rare Northern Qi ewer. The vessel is the earliest in the exhibition by approximately fifty years, and anticipates many characteristics that came to fruition by the 8th century and are evident in high Tang pottery. These include the lavish use of rich lead glazes, the 'exotic' influences from outside China on the shape and decoration of vessels, and the interrelation and extensive borrowing between different media such as textiles, metalwork and ceramics. The present exhibition gives an excellent representation of this rich cross-fertilization, both from within, and from outside, the Tang artistic and cultural borders." excerpt from the foreword by Giuseppe Eskenazi.
