A Collector's Vision, the exhibition at the Metropolitan Museum of Art in New York in 2016, Global by Design Chinese Ceramics from the R. Albuquerque Collection, loans to other temporary exhibitions and conferences based on the collection, this volume is the result of Renato de Albuquerque's quest to continue to share his collection and the research undertaken on it with the wider public. The sixth volume of the RA Collection concludes a series of publications, the first five of which are dedicated to Chinese ceramics and enamelled copper, reflecting the extraordinary collection of works of art assembled by the collector Renato de Albuquerque. This final volume, The RA Collection of Cross-Cultural Works of Art: A Collector's Vision is dedicated to works of art other than porcelain and enamel on copper, which have resulted from the interaction between African, Asian and Western cultures. It includes pieces from ancient Sierra Leone, the Kingdom of Kongo, Sri Lanka, India, China, the Philippines and Japan; these hybrids works of art are of historical significance and were produced during a period when a new common worldwide cultural heritage had emerged. The 57 book entries illustrate and discuss some of the most iconic pieces of Renato Albuquerque's collection of cross-cultural works of art, written by six authors, each covering a particular field of expertise. arnoldsche Art Publishers, Stuttgart. 2021, 1st Edition. (ISBN: 9783897906426). Hardcover. Book, Portuguese text; Hardcover (without dust jacket - as issued); 24 x 28 cm; 1.950 kg; 328 pages including 330 illustrations.; New, still wrapped in plastic.; In a country known for its lively azulejos (tiles) and clay crafts, local studio pottery in Portugal has remained practically unknown, yet throughout the last century, a considerable number of potters and visual artists - from Portugal as well as Germany, Hungary, and Mozambique, among other countries - have created an original corpus of work. Based on what is probably the most comprehensive collection of local ceramic art, this publication discusses with greater detail thirty potters' work and is illustrated with over 200 ceramics. It covers the entire twentieth century, but gives particular emphasis to the 1950s and 1960s, when there was a boom in interest for the discipline and when both state and private patrons commissioned significant artworks. This is the first seminal study of such an eclectic production, aiming to become a standard reference for the general public, collectors, and museum curators. New/No Jacket.

Bronces Arcaicos Del Museo de Shanghai: Festines, Rituales Y Ceremonias
Museu Nacional D'Art de Catalunya, Spain. 2004. (ISBN: 8480431253). Soft cover. Book, Spanish text.; Paperback; 24 x 29.5 cm.; 1.3 Kg.; 220 pages with colour illustrations throughout.; Used book in fine condtion. Interior as new. Minor signs of shelf wear on the exterior.; Exhibition catalogue.; From the 21st century BC, with the Xia, Shang and Zhou dynasties, China enters the Bronze Age. From this period are preserved, among others, different bronze vessels of great beauty and complexity, used to offer food and wines to the ancestors. This shows us that already at that time the gastronomy and the feast were of great importance in the culture and the rite. In addition, the bronze denoted power as evidenced by the fact that many of those vessels were commissioned by kings and nobles, who took them on their last trip to enjoy them for all eternity. With the Iron Age (4th century BC), the bronzes will lose their ritual function. The discovery of bronze vessels in tombs or graves will be considered as an aupitious sign and will be object of study of emperors and lawyers of later dynasties. The presented exhibition is the final materialization of the will of both cities. The 31 pieces donated by the Shanghai Museum according to a selection from a studied process, form a chronological journey that starts from the end of the mythical Xia dynasty (XVIII - XVI centuries BC) and until the period of the Combatant Kingdoms (475-221 BC). Therefore, the exhibition covers the almost 2,000 years of splendor of the Bronze Age and concludes just before its decline in the third century BC. of C. The Silk Road in Inner Mongolia
University Museum and Art Gallery, The University of Hong Kong. 2007, 1st Edition. (ISBN: 9789628038732). Hardcover. Book, Chinese and English text.; Hardcover (without dust jacket - as issued).; 23.5 x 31 cm; 1.6 kg; 231 pages with colour illustrations throughout.; Used with signs of wear on the exterior. Interior as new.; Catalogue from the exhibition co-presented by the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region Museum and the University Museum and Art Gallery of the University of Hong Kong from 15 February to 13 of May 2007.; "The exhibition is so rich in content that it provides a survey of cultural exchange between China and the West via the Silk Road since the Tang dynasty. In ancient times, there were several branches of the Silk Road extending over the continents of Europe and Asia, representing almost one-third of the total area of the world. Of all routes, that of the northern steppe, which originated in the westward migration of the northern Xiongnu tribe is the oldest. Cultural exchange between China and the West increased rapidly during the Tang dynasty, and was unprecedentedly active during the Yuan dynasty, when Genghis Khan and his descendants followed the steppe route through Western Asia and Europe. During the development of the ancient steppe regions in northern China, its inhabitants did not only follow the silk routes to liaise with the West, but also developed frequent contacts with the central plains of China. Therefore, the northern steppe regions influenced the central plains culture, and that of the West, while also absorbing influences from both these regions. The cultural relics displayed in this exhibitions are the products of this long process of multicultural exchange. This exhibition will feature eighty extraordinary relics dating to the Turkic period (552 - 745), the Qidan period (916 - 1125) and the Yuan dynasty (1271 - 1368), to show the unique features of the steppe culture. Many of the relics are formal expressions of the integration of the material cultures of the steppes, and that of the West. This is and exhibition organized exclusively to demonstrate the unique characteristics of nomadic civilization." excerpt from the foreword by Liu Zhaohe, the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region (Deputy Director, Hall of Culture and Director, Bureau of Cultural Relics). The Burrell at Kelvingrove: Collecting Chinese Treasures
Glasgow Museums, Glasgow. 2019. (ISBN: 9781908638328). Soft cover. Book, English text.; Paperback.; 21 x 25 cm.; 0.2 Kg.; 40 pages with 58 colour illustrations.; Catalogue from the exhibition 'The Burrell at Kelvingrove: Collecting Chinese Treasures 'held at the Glasgow Museums from the 14th September 2019 to Spring 2020.; A carefully curated selection of masterpieces and very rare Chinese objects from the Burrell Collection is on display at Kelvingrove Art Gallery and Museum. The 63 objects are made from either jade, ceramic or bronze and have been picked from around 1800 pieces from China in the Burrell Collection. The works for this exhibition have been chosen by Jorge Welsh, an internationally renowned collector, dealer and expert in Chinese art with galleries in London and Lisbon, and Dr Yupin Chung, curator of Chinese and East Asian Art for Glasgow Museums. Among the highlights are Tang Dynasty tomb guardian figures, elaborate forms of ritual bronzes more than 2,500 years old, a rare Ming Dynasty blue-and-white tankard and a Tantalus Cup which has the figure of a woman in the middle. It's a 500 year old practical joke which pours liquid onto the victim from a hole in the bottom once the cup is filled to the brim. The amount of Chinese works in the Burrell Collection represents the third largest collection in Europe. It contains around 146 pieces of jade which date as far back as the Shang dynasty, 170 bronzes and more than 1400 ceramics including objects from the Neolithic period. New/No Jacket.
