Warship Monographs. Monograph Two. The five battleships of this class - Queen Elizabeth, Barham, Malaya, Valiant, Warspite - were the last designed under Sir Philip Watts as Director Naval Construction. All served in the latter stages of WWI (Queen Elizabeth controversially at the Dardanelles) and with distinction (especially Warspite) throughout WWII which all save Barham, a tragic early loss, survived. A wonderful elegy of a long career in the last years of sail, including service aboard the square-rigger Elginshire. This is almost an early issue (possibly in a trial binding). BL gives 1947 but the author's inscription is dated October 1946.
