Country Life : April 6 1989. New Architecture Number.
London, IPC 1989 196pp, many illustrations, many pages of adverts. 32x24, illustrated wraps. Cover slightly creased, chip to spine, contents very good. Issue devoted to new architecture; Country Life notes neo-Georgian architects (Casson, Dixon) as successful, with positive responses to some modern architecture. Post-modernism, and any public sector bodies, do not fare so well in the critic's eye.

ADLER Florian et al (eds)
International Asbestos Cement Review AC79: Meeting Places (Vol 20, No. 3)
Zürich, Karl Krämer & Co 1975 60pp, bw illustrations 21x27, illustrated wraps Wraps a little marked and creased, a little foxing, good thus. Important journal, belying its name, with tri-lingual coverage of developments in modern architecture. Public buildings from theatres to shopping centres are covered. Lovers of irony will appreciate the preface, by Sir Ralph Bateman, on the 'Social Responsibility of Public Companies': Bateman was Chairman of Turner and Newall, Britain's largest asbestos producer, and a byword for a complete lack of responsibility, whether to their employees, pensioners, the communities where they were based, and so on. The firm eventually went bankrupt in the face of claims for compensation, having covered up the risks of its products for nearly 75 years.
