An insightful look into the lives of New York's Jewish elites. Stephen Birmingham (1932- ) has written extensively about America's upper classes. This was the first of his more than thirty books. Very Good.

Tall 8vo/24.5cm. Orange cloth gilt with blue and white decoration over seal of Society, slightly faded at spine and toward edges, internally fine. Many of the personal papers of Charles H. Wenman are in the Collections of the Brooklyn Historical Society. Fine.

An athoritative acount of the Port's devepment in the first half of the nineteenth century. Robert Greenhelgh Albion (1896-1983) was Harvard's first Professor of Oceanic History. Much respected he was often referred to as the dean of American maritime historians. Very Good.

Dr. Leo Hershkowitz (1921-2011) was a prominent New York City historian especially of its early Jewry as well as 19th century politics. He was also a great document collector founding the Historical Documents Collection at Queens College where he taught for many years and donating collections named after him to the Tamiment Library of N. Y.U. and to the American Jewish Archives. Very Good.

Louis Leonard Tucker (1927- , the Editor, was the former New York State Historian and Director of the Massachusetts Historical Society as well as author of a number of notable historical works. NF.

Part of the results of a project prepared for and under the aegis of the Museum of the City of New York and partly funded by the New York State Council n the Arts. The Project Director and principal author of this report was Ellitot Willensky (1934-1990) an architect known especially for his co-authorship with Norval White of The AIA Guide to New York CIty, a standard architectural reference work on the city since its first publication in 1968. At the time of his early death, he was Vice Chairman of the New York City Landmarks Preservation Commission and Brough Historian of Brooklyn. See also his supplemental report on this project, Guide to Developing a Neighborhood Marker System. The current owner of this publication was a member of Mr.Willensky's project. Copies scarce. Fine.
