EPHEMERA / BUFFALO GASOLENE MOTOR CO.
The Herd : A Little Magazine Published By the Buffalo Gasolene Motor Co.
Buffalo, NY: Buffalo Gasolene Motor Co, 1919. Pamphlet. This is a small format booklet with illustrated covers and a stapled spine. The booklet is in Very Good condition and was issued without a dust jacket. The covers of the book have a small nick / tear to the bottom spine end, and also have some spots of light, ground-in dirt. The text pages are clean and bright. "In1898 the Buffalo Gasolene Motor Company organized for the purpose of building a motor that would meet the growing need of a strictly high grade engine. Our machines at once met with the approval of the public, and by using the best material that could be had, the favor with which our engine was received has grown so that we have had to increase our plant three different times, and are now contemplating a large addition. We have not lost sight of the fact, however, with the increasing business, the importance of watching every detail in the construction, and we do not hesitate to repeat what has often been told us by the best engine users of both this and foreign countries, "that the BUFFALO excels in compactness and neatness". The Buffalo motor is not of the large cumbersome type, nor is it built so light that it will not stand constant and hard usage. We have a medium weight motor, built of the best material obtainable, and is the embodiment of all the advantages common to the best engines of today, as well as a number of important features peculiar to itself." (from Old Marine Engine). Very Good .

The spine ends and corners of the book covers have rubbing, edge wear and small tears. The covers have generalized rubbing and ground in dirt. The text pages are clean and bright. "Farmall was a model name and later a brand name for tractors manufactured by the American company International Harvester (IH). The Farmall name was usually presented as McCormick-Deering Farmall and later McCormick Farmall in the evolving brand architecture of IH. Farmalls were general-purpose tractors. Their origins were as row-crop tractors, a category that they helped establish and in which they long held a large market share. During the decades of Farmall production (1920s to 1980s) , most Farmalls were built for row-crop work, but many orchard, fairway, and other variants were also built. Most Farmalls were all-purpose tractors that were affordable for small to medium-sized family farms and could do enough of the tasks needed on the farm that the need for hired hands was reduced and the need for horses or mules was eliminated. Thus Farmall was a prominent brand in the 20th-century trend toward the mechanization of agriculture in the US." (from Wikipedia). Good .

"Deere & Company began when John Deere, born in Rutland, Vermont, USA on February 7, 1804, moved to Grand Detour, Illinois in 1836 to escape bankruptcy in Vermont. Already an established blacksmith, Deere opened a 1,378-square-foot (128 m2) shop in Grand Detour in 1837, which allowed him to serve as a general repairman in the village, as well as a manufacturer of tools such as pitchforks and shovels. Tools were just a start; the item that set him apart was the self-scouring steel plow, which was pioneered in 1837 when John Deere fashioned a Scottish steel saw blade into a plow. Prior to Deere's steel plow, most farmers used iron or wooden plows to which the rich Midwestern soil stuck, so they had to be cleaned frequently. The smooth-sided steel plow solved this problem, and greatly aided migration into the American Great Plains in the 19th and early 20th centuries. " (from Wikipedia). Very Good .
