FORD MOTOR COMPANY
For Better, Easier, Low Cost Farming. . . Ford Tractors (New Select-O-Speed)
Birmingham, MI: Ford Motor Company, 1959. Ephemera. B&W Illustrations; This is an oversized booklet with a stapled spine. The booklet is in Very Good+ condition and was issued without a dust jacket. The booklet and its contents are in clean, bright condition. The text pages are clean and bright. "Fifty-one years ago in February 1959, the Tractor and Implement Division of the Ford Motor Company introduced the Select-O-Speed transmission for the Ford 601, 701, 801 and 901 series of tractors. It was a full powershift transmission which enabled the operator to shift on-the-go between ten forward and two reverse speeds by moving a single selector lever located under the dash. There was no traditional clutch or clutch pedal, although an “inching pedal” was provided to assist in hitching the tractor to implements. The concept of the full powershift transmission originated with Howard Simpson. Simpson was a Ford tractor engineer during the 1920s and developed the fenders which prevented the Fordson tractor from tipping over backwards. During the 1930s, he developed a series of experimental tractors for Henry Ford and was slated to be the lead engineer for the Ford-Ferguson tractor before he resigned. He then developed many transmissions designs for cars and trucks and during the 1950s all three major auto companies paid royalties to Simpson for the concepts they were using in their automatic transmissions." "The Henry Ford Company was Henry Ford's first attempt at a car manufacturing company and was established on November 3, 1901. This became the Cadillac Motor Company on August 22, 1902, after Ford left with the rights to his name. The Ford Motor Company was launched in a converted factory in 1903 with $28,000 (equivalent to $797,000 in 2019) in cash from twelve investors, most notably John and Horace Dodge (who would later found their own car company). The first president was not Ford, but local banker John S. Gray, who was chosen to assuage investors' fears that Ford would leave the new company the way he had left its predecessor. During its early years, the company produced just a few cars a day at its factory on Mack Avenue and later at its factory on Piquette Avenue in Detroit, Michigan. Groups of two or three men worked on each car, assembling it from parts made mostly by supplier companies contracting for Ford. Within a decade, the company would lead the world in the expansion and refinement of the assembly line concept, and Ford soon brought much of the part production in-house (vertical integration). In Times of Peace, Or for the Nation's Defense - It's Harley Davidson
Milwaukee, WI: Harley-Davidson Motor Company, 1942. Ephemera. B&W Illustrations; One long sheet, folded in three. With writing and photos on both sides - this is an undated folded advertisement for the famous motorcycle company for either during, or just after World War II (including an illustration featuring the U. S. Army Signal Corps). The advertisement is in Very Good+ condition , with just a few spots of discoloration on one edge of the page. Included are descriptions of "the sidecar, Servi-car Model GA, Servi-car Model G, and The package Truck". "The Servi-Car was designed during the Great Depression when Harley-Davidson was desperate to expand its product base to increase sales. Targeted at the automotive service industry, the vehicle was designed to be towed behind a car to be delivered to a customer; when the car was delivered at its destination, the driver would unhitch the Servi-Car and ride back to the garage. For this reason, it was available with a tow bar at the front and a large 60 Ah battery. In addition to its intended use for car delivery and retrieval, the Servi-Car was also popular as a utility vehicle for small businesses and mobile vendors. They proved to be particularly popular with the police departments, some of which still used Servi-Cars into the 1990s." (from Wikipedia). Very Good+ .

FORD MOTOR COMPANY, Parts Price List V-8 and 4-Cylinder Cars 1928-1932
FORD MOTOR COMPANY
Parts Price List V-8 and 4-Cylinder Cars 1928-1932
San Francisco, CA: Polyprints, 0. Reprint. Stapled wraps. Trade PB. This is a trade paperback book with cardstock covers and a stapled spine. The book is in Very Good condition and was issued without a dust jacket. The covers have sunning to the spine, spine joints and edges. The text pages are clean and bright. This is a reprint of the original - not exactly a facsimile edition, but close. "The Ford flathead V8 (often called simply the Ford flathead, flathead Ford, or flatty when the context is implicit, such as in hot-rodding) is a V8 engine with a flat cylinder head designed by the Ford Motor Company and built by Ford and various licensees. During the engine's first decade of production, when overhead-valve engines were used by only a small minority of makes, it was usually known simply as the Ford V-8, and the first car model in which it was installed, the Model 18, was (and still is) often called simply the "Ford V-8", after its new engine. Although the V8 configuration was not new when the Ford V8 was introduced in 1932, the latter was a market first in the respect that it made an 8-cylinder affordable and a V engine affordable to the emerging mass market consumer for the first time. It was the first independently designed and built V8 engine produced by Ford for mass production, and it ranks as one of the company's most important developments. A fascination with ever-more-powerful engines was perhaps the most salient aspect of the American car and truck market for a half century, from 1923 until 1973." (from Wikipedia). Very Good .

The Story of the Goodrich Road Marker
Akron, OH: Goodrich Company, 0. 1st Edition; 1st Printing. Stapled wraps. B&W Illustrations; This is a trade sized booklet with illustrated cardstock covers and a stapled spine. The booklet is in Very Good+ condition and was issued without a dust jacket. The spine ends and corners of the book covers have some light bumping and wear. Goodrich Tire Company took the initiative to create road signs for the traveling public. The earliest road signs were made from sheets of metal with dimples in them to create letters and numbers. Later versions were then coated with porcelain and painted bright colors to help them stand out and last longer. Warning signs were typically round with a red background and white lettering for things such as railroad crossings. Signs giving directions were also circular but had a blue back-ground. Arrows would then point in the direction of a town with the town name and distance in miles printed on them. Lastly, all of these signs had the words Goodrich on top and Tires on the bottom to help promote the rubber tire maker. " (from Vanderbilt Cup Races website). Very Good+ .

THE ORDNANCE DEPARTMENT, Service Parts Catalog for Motorcycle Chain Drive, Solo (Snl G-523) - Harley-Davidson Model Wla 30 October 1943
THE ORDNANCE DEPARTMENT
Service Parts Catalog for Motorcycle Chain Drive, Solo (Snl G-523) - Harley-Davidson Model Wla 30 October 1943
Washington, D. C.: The Ordnance Department, 1943. Updated edition. Paperback. B&W Illustrations; This is an oversized paperback book. The book is in Very Good- condition and was issued without a dust jacket. The book covers have some edgewear, rubbing and bumping. There are spots of discoloration to the front and rear covers of the book, mostly towards the foredges. The text pages are generally clean and bright, though there is some spotting throughout. The text pages smell dusty / musty. "Harley-Davidson began producing the WLA in small numbers in 1940, as part of a general military expansion. The later entry of the United States into World War II saw significantly increased production, with over 90,000 being produced during the war (along with spare parts the equivalent of many more). Harley-Davidson would also produce a close WLA variant for the Canadian Army called the WLC and would also supply smaller numbers to the UK, South Africa, and other allies, as well as filling orders for different models from the Navy and Marine Corps. Unusually, all the WLAs produced after Pearl Harbor, regardless of the actual year, would be given serial numbers indicating 1942 production. Thus, war-time machines would come to be known as 42WLAs. This may have been in recognition of the continued use of the same specification. Most WLCs were produced in 1941, and are marked 42WLC. The precise serial number, as well as casting marks, can be used to date a specific motor accurately, and some other parts bear year and month stamps. Frames and many other parts were not tagged with the serial number, and cannot generally be dated. This is common prior to adoption of the vehicle identification number (VIN). " (from Wikipedia). CHEVROLET MOTOR DIVISION
1961 Chevrolet Passenger Car Owners Guide
Detroit, MI: Chevrolet Motor Division, 1961. 1st Edition; 1st Printing. Paperback. B&W Illustrations; Stated First Edition. This is an oblong paperback book with illustrated cardstock covers and a stapled spine. The book is in mostly clean and bright condition. There is one small tear to the bottom front panel. The rear cover of the book has some spots of ground-in dirt. The text pages are clean and bright. "For 1961, Chevrolet again had a totally new body, not just new sheetmetal. Its wheelbase remained 119 in (3,000 mm) , but its length was now reduced slightly to 209.3 in (5,320 mm). All engines options of the previous year remained in effect with the standard engines being the 235.5 CID Six of 135 hp (101 kW) or the 283 CID V8 of 170 hp (130 kW). The V8 cost $110 more than the Six and weighed 5 lb (2.3 kg) less. The Bel Air 2-door sedan used squared-off roof styling and large wrap-around rear window as opposed to the hardtop's swept-back design. The Bel Air 4-door Sport Hardtop still used a different roof line than did the 4-door sedan." (from Wikipedia). Very Good+ .
