CLARK, GLENN
The Thought Farthest out
Saint Paul, MN: Macalester Park Publishing Co, 1955. 10th Edition. Stapled wraps. This is a small format booklet with illustrated covers and a stapled spine. The booklet is in Very Good+ condition and was issued without a dust jacket. There is some beginning bumping and rubbing to the spine ends and corners of the booklet covers. The text pages are clean and bright. "This was, of couse, good metaphysical practice, employed by both Christian Science and New Thought, and Glenn Clark unhestitatingly adopted it and carried it into his own ministry and teaching. One finds again and again in his writings whole paragraphs that might have been found in any of the better New Thought writers' books. His favorite of all the New Thought writers was Walter Lanyon, and Clark's own books bear many similarities to those of Lanyon. New thought people regarded him as one who spoke their language. He was a welcome visitor at the headquarters of New Thought in Washington. The INTA Bulletin reported that he met with a dozen teachers and workers and that all were uplifted by this time together and sustained "in our realization of the active power of concerted constructive thought and prayer." He spoke at the International New Thought Alliance Congress held in Minneapolis in 1939, and appeared again at the San Francisco Congress where he spoke on "Our Responsibility toward World Peace." " (from Glenn Clark's website). Very Good+ .

"A man who, without being himself a recognized New Thought leader, has been highly influential in introducing New Thought ideas and techniques into the churches, was Glenn Clark. A Presbyterian, reared in the church, teaching in a Presbyterian college, and teaching also a Sunday School class in his home church of St. Paul. For thirty years he was a professor of literature and athletic coach at Macalester College, A Presbyterian liberal arts college in St. Paul, Minnesota, where a Department of Creative Living was established for him. He was deeply religious and something of a mystic, a great believer in prayer. He first came into prominence through an article in the Atlantic Monthly, "The Soul's Sincere Desire" He began to be much in demand as a speaker in the churches and in summer camps. In 1930 he organized a summer camp of his own in Koronis, Mn, to which he gave the name "Camp Fathest Out." Here for a period, amidst pleasant surroundings, a group of congenial and serious-minded people met for a season of fellowship, relaxation, and spiritual renewal, under the direction of Dr. Clark and others of somewhat similar views. In 1942 he resigned from his position at the College to give all his time to helping others discover this integration of body, mind and spirit in God." The text pages are clean and bright. "The Altrurian Society was founded by L. A. Fealy in 1911 in Birmingham, Alabama. In 1892, Fealy had a vision of a life work in which he was told to "go heal the sick" and to seek, through laws which would be revealed, a plan in which all might know the "freedom from the bonds of matter and have Health, Happiness, and Abundance." He studied the hidden and latent forces of the inner self and became a successful healer. His success led to an "Initiation into Apostolic Powers," and as a bishop he was able to establish churches and commission others as ministers and healers. By 1902 he was actively traveling, preaching, and healing." (from Encyclopedia C*m) "Founded by the Unitarian minister Edward Byron Payne (1847–1923) and thirty of his followers near Santa Rosa, California, in October 1894, Altruria prospered only for a few months. Payne was born in Vermont and served as minister for Unitarian churches in New Hampshire, Massachusetts, and several other east coast locations. In 1892, due to deteriorating health, Payne moved west and became the minister of First Unitarian Church, in Berkeley, California, delivering sermons reflecting socialist principles and covering political events of his era. The last installment of William Dean Howells' popular work, A Traveller from Altruria, was published in the 1893 issue of Cosmopolitan. Several Altrurian groups subsequently emerged in the Bay Area, and at one of these gatherings in 1894, a Berkeley-based Altrurian Club decided to change its focus from discussing social change to implementing social change through the establishment of a colony; Payne was a charter member. Several such societies were created in the San Francisco and Los Angeles areas." (from Wikipedia). Very Good .

Know Thyself
New York, NY: G. S. Rand Publications, 1952. 1st Edition; 1st Printing. Paperback. This is a smaller than trade sized paperback book. The book is in Very Good condition and was likely issued without a dust jacket. The book has some bumping, rubbing and wear to the spine ends and corners of the book covers The text pages are mostly clean and bright, but there is some light, generalized toning throughout. "Dan Custer is a speaker who is gladly heard by thousands of people each week by radio or in the non-sectarian meeting which he addresses each Sunday morning in a San Francisco theater. In this book he summarizes his message, which consists of a religious philosophy largely drawn from Christian sources, together with techniques whereby the individual can harness the life force of the world to achieve peace, material blessings, physical health and immortality. This book abounds with case histories to back up the psychological and pastoral insights which he presents. Some classical Christian beliefs are ignored or even refuted. Rather the book is full of ""positive thinking"" and a confident faith in the essential goodness and unlimited possibilities of man. Those who believe either the Christian or Hebrew positions may find themselves uneasy with the implied concept of God or His relation to man." (from Kirkus Review, June 15, 1960). Very Good .

He was a vegetarian and an early exponent of vitamin and mineral supplements, long before such knowledge had become generally accepted. Both he and his attractive wife had earlier been associated with the well known health and exercise guru of the day, Bernard Macfadden. I never attended a formal prosperity class at Unity School, nor did I ever receive formal instruction on the subject while in attendance there. Instead, I have always considered Dr. Dale my prosperity teacher." (Fillmore Fellowship website). Very Good+ .
