BIEDERWOLF, WILLIAM EDWARD (D. D. ), Mormonism Under the Searchlight
BIEDERWOLF, WILLIAM EDWARD (D. D. )
Mormonism Under the Searchlight
Grand Rapids, MI: William B. Eerdmans Publishing Company, 1947. 1st Edition Thus; 1st Printing. Pamphlet. B&W Illustrations; Apparently this is a reprint of an article that was published in Glad Tidings Publ. This is a small trade sized pamphlet with cardstock covers and a stapled spine. The pamphlet is in Very Good- to Near Very Good condition and was issued without a dust jacket. The front cover of the pamphlet has a tear to the top edge that has been repaired. The front cover of the book has pulled away from the staples leaving two small rectangular holes. The text pages are clean, but noticeably toned due to the acid content of the paper used, especially the pages at either end of the text. "William Edward Biederwolf (September 29, 1867 – September 3, 1939) was an American Presbyterian evangelist...In his early years, at least, Biederwolf was not above using parades, athletic feats, and magic tricks to win over audiences. Also like his colleagues, Biederwolf gave sermons on "booze," motherhood, and purity (though, as was typical of the period, the latter was given to men only). Later Biederwolf winced at evangelists who had promotional photographs taken of themselves in ridiculous poses, admitting that although he himself had "been foolishly guilty with his brethren," he had "put away the things of a fool." While Biederwolf stressed the significance of the Holy Spirit in producing conversions, he also did not shy away from noting the importance of the evangelist’s "personal magnetism." ". Very Good- .

"It was neither a mystery nor an accident how Canada’s Own became a minister at the “Cathedral of Presbyterianism” in New York City. Bonnell was a restless man, driven to communicate to a wider audience than what he had in Canada. He headed for NYC on more than one occasion while at Westminster Church, conferring with people of influence in the city and making himself visible. Eventually, he did find a wider audience. Fifth Avenue Presbyterian Church was a very visible and highly respected pulpit. He followed ministers of substance there and acquitted himself well. The New York Times reported on his sermons every week. He had the opportunity to broadcast regularly on radio station WABC to an audience of perhaps three million listeners. He initiated a dial-a-prayer telephone ministry (Bonnell is credited with being the first minister to use this means of reaching people in need of pastoral care). Bonnell also became a confidante of Billy Graham. He accompanied the Graham on a preaching crusade to Scotland in 1955, and was honoured by Graham on the platform during public meetings in his New York Crusade in 1957. (And was also roundly reviled by Fundamentalist clerics in the U. S as the Devil’s minister in his association with Graham. **) " (from the Westminster United Church website). Very Good+ .

BOYD, FRANK MATHEWS, God's Wonderful Book the Origin, Lineage, and Influence of the Bible
BOYD, FRANK MATHEWS
God's Wonderful Book the Origin, Lineage, and Influence of the Bible
Springfield, MO: Gospel Publishing House, 1933. 1st Edition; 1st Printing. Paperback. This is a smaller than trade sized paperback book with cardstock covers and a glued spine. The book is in Very Good condition and was issued without a dust jacket. The book covers have spots of fading, especially to the spine and spine joints. The text pages are clean and bright. There is a previous owner's inked name and address on the front endpaper, along with an inked twenty-five cents note. "Frank Mathews Boyd (1883-1983) is remembered as one of the early theologians of the Assemblies of God. He was born Dec. 24, 1883, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, and spent much of the next one hundred years traveling the nation ensuring that Pentecostal ministers had access to a quality ministerial education. In 1906, Boyd traveled to Oakland, California, for a job opportunity. While there, he attended a Bible study concerning the second coming of Christ. The study of the end times convicted him as to his own life purpose. He made a commitment to follow Christ and soon felt a call to full-time ministry. Boyd received his formal theological training from three evangelical schools. After graduating from the Missionary Training Institute at Nyack, New York, in 1911, he attended Biblical Seminary in New York and also earned his bachelor’s degree at Los Angeles Pacific College. In the early days of the Pentecostal movement, local churches often ordained men and women for ministry and Boyd was ordained in 1912 by Bethel Pentecostal Assembly in Newark, New Jersey. He later served as the principal of their Bethel Bible Training School in Newark. When the Assemblies of God was formed in April of 1914, Frank Boyd was one of its first ministers, transferring his papers to the organization in August of that year." CAM worked with other concerned groups to educate and arouse our church to the implications of such a course. The Convention did in fact oppose such ordinations. The Committee proposes in this present triennium to sponsor both a series of tracts and larger works designed to elucidate the nature of the ministry in our church. This fine address by Dr. Terwilliger is the first in this proposed series." (from Project Canterbury, Robert Terwilliger). Very Good+ .

BROWN, JAMES R., The Dead Sea Scrolls
BROWN, JAMES R.
The Dead Sea Scrolls
Cincinnati, OH: Forward Movement Publication, 1966. Stapled wraps. This is a very small pamphlet, with self covers (colored) and a stapled spine. The pamphlet is in Very Good+ condition and was issued without a dust jacket. The booklet has some light rubbing to the spine ends and corners. The text pages are clean and bright. "The Dead Sea Scrolls (also the Qumran Caves Scrolls) are ancient Jewish and Hebrew religious manuscripts discovered between 1946 and 1956 at the Qumran Caves in what was then Mandatory Palestine, near Ein Feshkha in the West Bank, on the northern shore of the Dead Sea. Dating from the 3rd century BCE to the 1st century CE, the Dead Sea Scrolls are considered to be a keystone in the history of archaeology with great historical, religious, and linguistic significance because they include the oldest surviving manuscripts of entire books later included in the biblical canons, along with deuterocanonical and extra-biblical manuscripts which preserve evidence of the diversity of religious thought in late Second Temple Judaism. At the same time they cast new light on the emergence of Christianity and of Rabbinic Judaism. Most of the scrolls are held by Israel in the Shrine of the Book at the Israel Museum, but their ownership is disputed by Jordan due to the Qumran Caves' history: following the End of the British Mandate for Palestine in 1947, Jordan occupied the area in the 1948 Arab–Israeli War, and Israel captured both the area and several Scrolls from Jordan in the 1967 Six Day War. However, some of the scrolls are still in Jordan and are now displayed at The Jordan Museum in Amman. Ownership of the scrolls is also contested by the State of Palestine. " (from Wikipedia).
