Cinderella a Peepshow Book
Boston, MA: Houghton Mifflin Company, 1950. Other. Illustrated by Roland Pym. Color Illustrations; This is a Peepshow book - with five separate panels, all connected, showing five separate pop-up scenes. The book is in Good condition and was issued without a dust jacket. The covers of the book are somewhat slanted and there is definite rubbing to the spine joints. The rear covers have half a large coffee ring / stain along with toning / darkening and spots of rubbing and biopredation. Both tie closings are complete and only a bit raveled at the edges. One of the panels has lost an inch of the top panel, has a longish tear to the right side of the right hand joint and a tear to the middle of the left hand joint. There are several other middling tears throughout, mostly to the bottom areas where the text is. There is a previous owner's inkstamped name on the rear cover. This is a pop-up book in a carousel style. "Roland Pym was born on July 14 1910, the son of Sir Charles Pym, a professional soldier, landowner and chairman of Kent County Council. He was brought up at Foxwold, the family home at Brasted Chart, where he lived for most of his life. Young Roly wanted to be an artist from an early age, and distinguished himself with his drawing at Eton. Going on to the Slade, where he was a contemporary of Osbert Lancaster, he won a competition for his first commission, a mural at Lord's pavilion. He assisted the Russian Ballet's scene-painter V Polunin with the decor for Massine's Blue Danube. Another commission was for Regency figures painted on blind windows at Biddesden, Wiltshire, for Bryan Guinness, the future 2nd Lord Moyne, who became a close friend." (Obituary in The Telegraph).
