Adams and Fred Archer developed the Zone System as a way to determine proper exposure and adjust the contrast of the final print. The resulting clarity and depth characterized his photographs. "Margaret Bourke-White (June 14, 1904 August 27, 1971) was an American photographer and documentary photographer. She is best known as the first foreign photographer permitted to take pictures of Soviet five-year plan, the first American female war photojournalist, and to have her photograph on the cover of the first issue of Life magazine...In 1929, Bourke-White accepted a job as associate editor and staff photographer of Fortune magazine, a position she held until 1935. In 1930, she became the first Western photographer allowed to take photographs of Soviet industry. She was hired by Henry Luce as the first female photojournalist for Life magazine in 1936. Her photograph of the Fort Peck Dam construction appeared on its first cover on November 23, 1936. She held the title of staff photographer until 1940, but returned from 1941 to 1942, and again in 1945, where she stayed through her semi-retirement in 1957 (which ended her photography for the magazine) and her full retirement in 1969.". There is a small chip to the top edge that has affected several pages. "Kodakery was a monthly periodical about photography, a journal for amateur photographers published by the Eastman Kodak Company Rochester, New York. Its articles covered topics of popular photography and were richly illustrated with photos. The first issue was published in September, 1913 and the last in 1932. Every purchaser of a Kodak Brownie camera received a free one year subscription. Current subscribers received a copy of the book "The Way to Better Pictures" when the magazine ceased publication. All issues of the publication are believed to be in the public domain today and many are available online. The title, "Kodakery", was later reused for an internal Kodak employee newsletter in the 1990s". Good .

"Flix Bonfils (8 March 1831 1885) was a French photographer and writer who was active in the Middle East. He was born in Saint-Hippolyte-du-Fort and died in Als. Flix worked as a bookbinder but in 1860 he joined General d'Hautpoul's expedition to the Levant. Soon after returning from Lebanon he became a photographer. When his son Adrien fell ill, Flix remembered the green hills around Beirut and sent him there to recover, being accompanied by Marie-Lydie Cabanis Bonfils, Flix's wife. The family moved to Beirut in 1867 where they opened a photographic studio called "Maison Bonfils." ". Fine .

Purple / Burgundy cloth covered boards have gilt lettering and decorations (in the style of the Gilded Age) to the front cover and spine of the book. There is some light / faint spotting (water spotting) to the top edges of the book cover which can only be seen if you hold the book at an angle. The book and its contents are in clean, bright condition. The text pages are clean and bright. The book is illustrated throughout with reproductions of actual photographs by Lartigue. The photographs are in black and white and sepia tone on matte gray card stock paper. The book mimics a family scrapbook with text by Lartigue along with an essay by Jean Fondin. This copy has a previous owner's inked gift notation (dated 1969) , and also an ink stamped name and address of Robert Pease & Co. Advertising. "Jacques Henri Lartigue ( June 13, 1894 September 12, 1986) was a French photographer and painter, known for his photographs of automobile races, planes and Parisian fashion female models. Born in Courbevoie, France to a wealthy family, Jacques Henri Lartigue started taking photographs when he was seven. He photographed his friends and family at play running and jumping; racing home-built race cars; making kites, gliders as well as aeroplanes; and climbing the Eiffel Tower. He also photographed sport events, such as the Coupe Gordon Bennett and the French Grand Prix, early flights of aviation pioneers such as Gabriel Voisin, Louis Blriot, Louis Paulhan and Roland Garros. He also captured in his camera, tennis players such as Suzanne Lenglen at the French Open tennis championships. Many of his initial, famous photographs were originally captured through stereo, but he also produced a vast number of images in all formats and media including glass plates in various sizes, autochromes, and film.".
