GRAND LODGE OF ARIZONA, The Monitorial Work of the Three Degrees of Masonry Funeral Service and the Antient Charges of a Freemason
GRAND LODGE OF ARIZONA
The Monitorial Work of the Three Degrees of Masonry Funeral Service and the Antient Charges of a Freemason
Arizona: Grand Lodge of Arizona, 1914. Hardcover. This is a small format book. The book is in Very Good+ condition and is lacking a dust jacket. The spine ends and corners of the book covers have bumping and rubbing. The text pages are clean and bright. The endpapers have noticeable generalized toning / acid burning. "Conducting Masonic Funeral Services is as old as the Fraternity itself. In the days of Operative Masonry, stonemasons buried their own with great solemnity and reverence. The deceased Brother was a man they had worked with side-by-side for years -- perhaps, even their entire lives. They extolled his virtues and the contributions he had made to the Craft's work. They spoke of the Eternal Life after death, and the need to perform "goode worke" toward all humanity throughout the course of a man's life. The entire guild and all of their families turned out in force to mourn their Brother's passing, and to express their sympathies to the Brother's family. This tradition has been carried forward for centuries to our present day Speculative Masonry. The first thing any non-Mason will observe is the size of the turnout. If it is small, they may conclude that his Lodge did not hold the deceased Brother in very high esteem. Or, even worse, that Freemasons are much too busy with their own private lives and interests to practice the tenets of Charity and Brotherly Love of which we so loudly boast. In other words, they may conclude that we do not practice what we preach. If the turnout is large, the non-Mason is likely to come away with a very different impression of both the Fraternity and the deceased Brother." (Masonsmart website).. Very Good+ .

The Mahatma Letters, which generated the controversy that later helped lead to the split of the Theosophical Society were mostly written to Sinnett or his wife Patience. As her theatrical career wound down in the mid-1930s, she took up an avid interest in (using modern terminology) channeling the dead. She claimed to transcribe works by none other than George Washington (whom she claimed demanded she transcribe his definitive autobiography in a receptive transcendent state) and common citizens such as a New England farm boy named Wilfred Brandon, supposedly killed in the Revolutionary War. These oddly entertaining works attracted enough attention to warrant several printings ("Incarnation: a Plea from the Masters," first edition 1936, 1951 reprint + UK/European editions). She was plagued with vision problems by her 60s and died at what is generally believed to be age 84, although her birth date is in dispute.". Very Good+ in Very Good+ dust jacket .

"With his old mentor George Cecil Jones, Crowley continued performing the Abramelin rituals at the Ashdown Park Hotel in Coulsdon, Surrey. Crowley claimed that in doing so he attained samadhi, or union with Godhead, thereby marking a turning point in his life. Making heavy use of hashish during these rituals, he wrote an essay on "The Psychology of Hashish" (1909) in which he championed the drug as an aid to mysticism. He also claimed to have been contacted once again by Aiwass in late October and November 1907, adding that Aiwass dictated two further texts to him, "Liber VII" and "Liber Cordis Cincti Serpente", both of which were later classified in the corpus of Holy Books of Thelema. Crowley wrote down more Thelemic Holy Books during the last two months of the year, including "Liber LXVI", "Liber Arcanorum", "Liber Porta Lucis, Sub Figura X", "Liber Tau", "Liber Trigrammaton" and "Liber DCCCXIII vel Ararita", which he again claimed to have received from a preternatural source. Crowley stated that in June 1909, when the manuscript of The Book of the Law was rediscovered at Boleskine, he developed the opinion that Thelema represented objective truth.". New York: Ives Washburn, 1956. 14th Printing. Hardcover. B&W Illustrations; This book is in Very Good condition and has a Very Good+ dust jacket. The book is generally clean and bright, with some light bumping and rubbing to the spine ends. The text pages are clean and bright. Both front and rear enpapers have tape shadows to the edges. The dust jacket is mostly clean and bright. There are several small edge nicks and tears, along with some light rubbing and edge wear. "According to Churchward, Mu "extended from somewhere north of Hawaii to the south as far as the Fijis and Easter Island." He claimed Mu was the site of the Garden of Eden and the home of 64,000,000 inhabitants known as the Naacals. Its civilisation, which flourished 50,000 years before Churchward's day, was technologically more advanced than his own, and the ancient civilisations of India, Babylon, Persia, Egypt and the Mayas were merely the decayed remnants of its colonies. Churchward claimed to have gained his knowledge of this lost land after befriending an Indian priest, who taught him to read an ancient dead language (spoken by only three people in all of India). The priest disclosed the existence of several ancient tablets, written by the Naacals, and Churchward gained access to these records after overcoming the priest's initial reluctance. His knowledge remained incomplete, as the available tablets were mere fragments of a larger text, but Churchward claimed to have found verification and further information in the records of other ancient peoples." Clausen, later to become the Sovereign Grand Commander of the Supreme Council, Scottish Rite, Southern Jurisdiction of the U. S, was assigned in 1944 by the U. S. Secretary of War, Henry L. Stimson, to conduct one of the many investigations of the Pearl Harbor attack in 1941. (Lodge of the Double Headed Eagle, by William L. Fox, pages 321-322). He conducted his extensive investigation during 1944 and 1945, while he was in the Judge Advocate General's Corps of the U. S. Army, a Major and then Lieutenant Colonel. Fox said that Clausen "concluded it was absurd to assume any complicity on the part of President Roosevelt or General George C. Marshall" for the Pearl Harbor attack, but instead Clausen blamed communications problems and an unworkable system of military intelligence. (Conspiracy theorists might say that Clausen, the Freemason, found that Roosevelt and Marshall, also Freemasons, were not to blame. ) ". Very Good+ .
