FOSTER, R. F., Foster's Russian Bank a Card Game for Two Players
FOSTER, R. F.
Foster's Russian Bank a Card Game for Two Players
New York, NY: E. P. Dutton & Co, Inc, 1929. New Edition; 6th Printing. Hardcover. B&W Illustrations; This book is in Very Good- condition and is lacking a dust jacket. The book and its contents are in generally clean, bright condition. The book covers have some light bumping, rubbing and edge wear, along with noticeable spots of fading and discoloration to the front foredge and the entire rear panel. The text pages are clean and bright. There is a previous bookstore sticker on the rear pastedown page. "Russian Bank is a gradual development from various forms of Solitaire, especially one which has been known since 1910 as Crapette, which seems to be a coined word. The game provides excellent training for both observation and judgment and has many surprising alternatives, owing to the infinite possibilities of the distribution of two packs of fifty-two cards each. It is impossible for any two games of Russian Bank to be even remotely alike, and even with exactly the same distribution of the cards the outcome may vary in countless ways. Another point in its favor is that each player is as much concerned in his opponent’s moves as in his own, the interest never flagging for a moment. " (from Wikisource). Very Good- .

FUJINO, ALISON AND BENJAMIN RUHE
The Stunt Kite Book
Philadelphia, PA: Running Press, 1989. 1st Edition; 1st Printing. Paperback. ISBN: 0894716972. B&W Photographs; This edition is an oblong paperback. This book is in Very Good+ condition and was issued without a dust jacket. The book and its contents are in clean, bright condition. The text pages are clean and bright. "Dual line kites have been around for a surprisingly long time. Possibly the first recorded 2-liner was made and flown by a Swiss man, Dr. Colladon, in the mid 1800's. His steerable kites were apparently based on the arch-top single liner which was popular at the time. Have you seen old illustrations featuring a diamond-like design with a curved top edge? That's the arch-top. Following on to this was the so-called Davis Star. This steerable kite was invented in the late 1800's and inspired by the hexagonal single-liners of the day.". Very Good+ .

Hanafuda the Flower Card Game
Brisbane, CA: Nichibo Shuppan-Sha, 1986. 7th Printing. Periodical. Illustrated by 4. B&W Illustrations; This is a trade paperback book. The book is in Near Fine condition and was issued without a dust jacket. The book and its contents are in clean, bright condition. "Hanafuda are playing cards of Japanese origin that are used to play a number of games. The name literally translates as "flower cards". The name also refers to games played with those cards...In 1549, the 18th year of Tenbun, a missionary Francis Xavier landed in Japan and the crew of his ship had carried a set of 48 Portuguese Hombre playing cards from Europe, and eventually card games became popular, along with their use for gambling. When Japan subsequently closed off all contact with the Western world in 1633, foreign playing cards were banned. Despite that prohibition, gambling with cards remained highly popular. Private gambling during the Tokugawa Shogunate was illegal. Because playing with card games per se was not banned, new cards were created with different designs to avoid the restriction.". VOGT, MICHAEL
The Paper Air Force 25 Easy-to-Make, Complete Designs
Chicago, IL: Contemporary Books, 1989. 1st Edition; 1st Printing. Paperback. ISBN: 0809243660. B&W Illustrations; This is an oversized paperback book with illustrated covers. The book is in Very Good+ condition The spine ends and corners of the book covers have some beginning bumping and rubbing. There is a small square patch of color lifted by the bottom front corner where a price tag was removed. The text pages are clean and bright. "The origin of folded paper gliders is generally considered to be of Ancient China, although there is equal evidence that the refinement and development of folded gliders took place in equal measure in Japan. Certainly, manufacture of paper on a widespread scale took place in China 500 BCE, and origami and paper folding became popular within a century of this period, approximately 460-390 BCE. It is impossible to ascertain where and in what form the first paper aircraft were constructed, or even the first paper plane's form. For over a thousand years after this, paper aircraft were the dominant man-made heavier-than-air craft whose principles could be readily appreciated, though thanks to their high drag coefficients, not of an exceptional performance when gliding over long distances. The pioneers of powered flight have all studied paper model aircraft in order to design larger machines. Da Vinci wrote of the building of a model plane out of parchment, and of testing some of his early ornithopter, an aircraft that flies by flapping wings, and parachute designs using paper models.
