Cambridge, MA / London, England: MIT Press, 1986. 1st Edition; 1st Printing. Hardcover. ISBN: 0262022257. "International Business Machines (IBM) , one of the world's largest companies, had a 62% share of the mainframe computer market in 1982. In the late 1970s the new personal computer industry was dominated by the Commodore PET, Atari 8-bit family, Apple II, Tandy Corporation's TRS-80, and various CP/M machines. With $150 million in sales by 1979 and projected annual growth of more than 40% in the early 1980s, the microcomputer market was large enough for IBM's attention. Other large technology companies such as Hewlett-Packard (HP) , Texas Instruments (TI) , and Data General had entered it, and some large IBM customers were buying Apples, so the company saw introducing its own personal computer as both an experiment in a new market and a defense against rivals, large and small. In 1980 and 1981 rumors spread of an IBM personal computer, perhaps a miniaturized version of the IBM System/370, while Matsushita acknowledged that it had discussed with IBM the possibility of manufacturing a personal computer for the American company. The Japanese project, codenamed "Go", ended before the 1981 release of the American-designed IBM PC codenamed "Chess", but two simultaneous projects further confused rumors about the forthcoming product. The Apple Iigs Toolbox Revealed
New York: Bantam Books, 1986. 1st Edition; 1st Printing. Paperback. ISBN: 0553343602. B&W Illustrations; This is an oversized paperback book. This book is in Very Good+ condition and was issued without a dust jacket. The text pages are clean and bright. "The Apple IIGS (styled as IIGS) , the fifth and most powerful of the Apple II family, is a 16-bit personal computer produced by Apple Computer, Inc. While featuring the Macintosh look and feel, and resolution and color similar to the Commodore Amiga and Atari ST, it remains compatible with earlier Apple II models. The "GS" in the name stands for "Graphics and Sound," referring to its enhanced multimedia hardware, especially its state-of-the-art audio. The microcomputer is a radical departure from any previous Apple II, with its 16-bit 65C816 microprocessor, direct access to megabytes of random-access memory (RAM) , and mouse. It was the first computer produced by Apple to use a color graphical user interface (color was introduced on the Macintosh II six months later) and Apple Desktop Bus (ADB) interface for keyboards, mice, and other input devices. It is the first personal computer to have a wavetable synthesis chip, using technology from Ensoniq. " (from Wikipedia). Very Good+ .

"Dynamical systems theory is an area of mathematics used to describe the behavior of complex dynamical systems, usually by employing differential equations or difference equations. When differential equations are employed, the theory is called continuous dynamical systems. From a physical point of view, continuous dynamical systems is a generalization of classical mechanics, a generalization where the equations of motion are postulated directly and are not constrained to be Euler–Lagrange equations of a least action principle. When difference equations are employed, the theory is called discrete dynamical systems. When the time variable runs over a set that is discrete over some intervals and continuous over other intervals or is any arbitrary time-set such as a Cantor set, one gets dynamic equations on time scales. Some situations may also be modeled by mixed operators, such as differential-difference equations. " (from Wikipedia). Very Good+ in Very Good- dust jacket .

KULISCH, ULRICH W. AND WILLARD L. MIRANKER
Computer Arithmetic in Theory and Practice
New York, NY: Academic Press, 1981. 1st Edition; 1st Printing. Hardcover. ISBN: 012428650X. Graphs; This book is in Very Good+ condition and was issued without a dust jacket. The book and its contents are in clean, bright condition. The text pages are clean and bright. There is a previous owner's inked name stamp on the front endpaper. Even as late as the early 1980's getting computers to work with (and understand correctly) how to do arithmetic problem solving was still not a sure thing. This book covers some new (to that point) theories of computer arithmetic and also the implementation of arithmetic on computers. "Central to this treatise is the concept of semimorphism. Properties of this concept are directly derivable from the diverse models that we study here. The concept of semimorphism supplies an ordering principle that permits the whole treatise to be understood and developed in close analogy to principles of geometry, whereby the mapping properties of a semimorphims replace those of a group of transformations in a geometry." The text pages are clean and bright. "The Commodore Plus/4 is a home computer released by Commodore International in 1984. The "Plus/4" name refers to the four-application ROM resident office suite (word processor, spreadsheet, database, and graphing) ; it was billed as "the productivity computer with software built-in." Internally, the Plus/4 shared the same basic architecture as the lower-end Commodore 16 and 116 models, and was able to use software and peripherals designed for them. The Plus/4 was incompatible with the Commodore 64's software and some of its hardware. Although the Commodore 64 was more established than the Plus/4 it was aimed at the more business orientated part of the personal computer market." (from Wikipedia). Very Good .

The book and its contents are in clean, bright condition. The dust jacket has some edge wear, rubbing and wear. "The traditional methods of storing information so that it may later be recalled are classification and indexing. The index has been in the form of subject headings, either printed in sequence on a page or typed on cards which are filed in sequence. During the past few decades new forms of index have come into use: cards on which subjects have been coded in patterns of holes, and, experimentally at least, paper tape, magnetic tape, magnetic drums and disks and photographic film. Such indexes are mechanically searched, and their development has been distinct from - almost in opposition to - traditional forms." This book (updated with new information regarding the fast changes in this area of computer science, especially in the 1960's) discusses the very wide open field of categorizing, indexing and retrieving information from computer systems with the varying theories described and discussed.. WOLFOWITZ, J. (JACOB), Coding Theorems of Information Theory
WOLFOWITZ, J. (JACOB)
Coding Theorems of Information Theory
Englewood Cliffs, NJ / Berlin, Germany: Prentice-Hall, Inc. / Springer-Verlag, 1961. 1st American Edition; 1st Printing. Hardcover. B&W Illustrations; This book is in Very Good+ condition and has a Very Good- dust jacket. The book and its contents are in mostly clean, bright condition. A previous owner's inked name has been crossed out on the copyright page and also the bottom edge of the text block. The text pages are clean and bright. The dust jacket has several noticeable edge nicks, tears and smallish to small edge chips missing (mostly the to the spine ends). The covers have generalized rubbing. "This monograph originated with a course of lectures on information theory which I gave at Cornell Univeristy during the academic year 1958-1959. It has no pretensions to exhaustiveness, and indeed, no pretensions at all. Its purpose is to provide, for mathematicians of some maturity, an easy introduction to the ideas and principals known theorems of a certain body of coding theory." "Jacob Wolfowitz (March 19, 1910 – July 16, 1981) was a Polish-born American statistician and Shannon Award-winning information theorist. He was the father of former United States Deputy Secretary of Defense and World Bank Group President Paul Wolfowitz....Wolfowitz's main contributions were in the fields of statistical decision theory, non-parametric statistics, sequential analysis, and information theory. One of his results is the strong converse to Claude Shannon's coding theorem. While Shannon could prove only that the block error probability can not become arbitrarily small if the transmission rate is above the channel capacity, Wolfowitz proved that the block error rate actually converges to one. As a consequence, Shannon's original result is today termed "the weak theorem" (sometimes also Shannon's "conjecture" by some authors).". Very Good+ in Very Good- dust jacket .
