"The Unemployment Insurance program (UI) provides temporary weekly cash payments to people who are unemployed through no fault of their own. The cash payments are meant for unemployed persons to temporarily provide basic necessities for themselves and their families while seeking new employment. The basic idea is that the money would be immediately spent, thus providing a direct stimulus to their local economies. UI is provided primarily through state governments with help from the federal government. Public unemployment insurance first appeared in Wisconsin in 1932 as part of an effort to provide relief to workers who were unemployed as a result of the 1929 financial collapse. Six other states followed suit before the first federal unemployment insurance program was created as part of the Social Security Act of 1935. By 1937, every state in the Union and the then-territories of Alaska and Hawaii had enacted their own unemployment insurance programs.". Very Good+ .

Miguel Jose Serra, Padre Junipero, O.F. M
San Francisco, CA: Grand Parlor, Native Sons of the Golden West, 1960. 1st Edition; 1st Printing. Stapled wraps. B&W Illustrations; SIGNED EDITION. This copy has been signed by the author on the front cover of the booklet. This is a trade sized booklet with cardstock covers and a stapled spine. The booklet is in Very Good+ condition and was issued without a dust jacket. The text pages are clean and bright. This is a biography of Padre Serra put together by authors connected with the Native Sons and Daughters of the Golden West, who were advocating, during this period, for a statue of the Padre at the state capitol in Sacramento. "Saint Junípero Serra Ferrer O. F. M. November 24, 1713 – August 28, 1784) , popularly known simply as Junipero Serra, was a Spanish Catholic priest and missionary of the Franciscan Order. He is credited with establishing the Franciscan Missions in the Sierra Gorda, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. He founded a mission in Baja California and established eight of the 21 Spanish missions in California from San Diego to San Francisco, in what was then Spanish-occupied Alta California in the Province of Las Californias, New Spain. Serra was beatified by Pope John Paul II on 25 September 1988 in Vatican City. Amid denunciations from Native American tribes who accused Serra of presiding over a brutal colonial subjugation, Pope Francis canonized Serra on 23 September 2015 at the Basilica of the National Shrine of the Immaculate Conception in Washington, D. C, during his first visit to the United States. Serra's missionary efforts earned him the title of "Apostle of California". " (from Wikipedia) ; Signed by Author. Very Good+ .

The map is in mostly clean, bright condition, but has some beginning generalized toning. "Edmund Palmer Conner (1900-1975) was born in Norfolk, Virginia on January 1, 1900. He was one of three children of Charles S. Conner, a lawyer, and Theodosia Brown Conner. The family migrated west in 1901 and settled in San Diego, California, where Conner attended elementary school, later moving to Pasadena where he attended Pasadena High School. The Bunker Hill neighborhood of downtown Los Angeles, bounded by Temple, Figueroa, 6th, and Hill Streets, was once an opulent subdivision created exclusively for Los Angeles's upper class in the late 19th century. The neighborhood began to decline after World War I as its population surged and wealthy residents headed for more suburban enclaves. Mansions were subdivided and occupied by renters, and eventually blight set in. In the 1950s, the city of Los Angeles began to redevelop the Bunker Hill area through the Bunker Hill Redevelopment Project, which not only included the demolition of Bunker Hill and its Victorian mansions, but the reconstruction of the Civic Center area.
