JONES, STUART E., Fun Helped Them Fight
JONES, STUART E.
Fun Helped Them Fight
Washington D. C.: National Geographic Society, 1948. Magazine. Color Photographs; This is a DISBOUND article from National Geographic Magazine. This is the actual article, not a photocopy. The article is in Very Good condition. Text pages are clean, bright and without chips, tears, discoloration or wear. They do, however, have the necessary staple holes where staples were removed. The article consists of five double-sided pages of text with accompanying photographs (there are twelve color photographs). The article is about the artwork found on the airplanes flown during World War II along with some information about the naming of the planes used. The photographs included are quite clear and show some of the more intriguing pictures the pilot & crew artists drew on their planes. There is actually very little text as the article is mostly a fluff piece used to remind readers about the war, but in our time, the look at the artwork and a gander at some of the names used on the planes gives a real perspective to the war and the times. Pictures are of planes named : Nine O Nine, The Goon, Ave Maria, Idiot's Delight, Accentuate the Positive, The Great Artiste, Balls o' Fire, Sweet and Lovely, Hookem Cow, MissBehave, Picture Packing Mama, and, New York Central II. The Great Artiste was the plane (A B-29 Superfortress) which dropped an Atomic Bomb on Nagasaki. The photographs all seem to be from the U. S. Army Air Force.. Very Good .
