"Wallpaper, using the printmaking technique of woodcut, gained popularity in Renaissance Europe amongst the emerging gentry. The social elite continued to hang large tapestries on the walls of their homes, as they had in the Middle Ages. These tapestries added color to the room as well as providing an insulating layer between the stone walls and the room, thus retaining heat in the room. However, tapestries were extremely expensive and so only the very rich could afford them. Less well-off members of the elite, unable to buy tapestries due either to prices or wars preventing international trade, turned to wallpaper to brighten up their rooms. Early wallpaper featured scenes similar to those depicted on tapestries, and large sheets of the paper were sometimes hung loose on the walls, in the style of tapestries, and sometimes pasted as today. Prints were very often pasted to walls, instead of being framed and hung, and the largest sizes of prints, which came in several sheets, were probably mainly intended to be pasted to walls.". CLARK, MISS VENA / COOPERATIVE EXTENSION SERVICE
The Fur Parka
Alaska: University of Alaska / Cooperative Extension Service, 1970. Reprint. Paperback. B&W Illustrations; This is an oversized paperback book with cardstock covers and a side stapled spine. The book and its contents are in mostly clean, bright condition. The front cover of the book has spots of toning / sunning. The text pages are clean and bright. "Invented by Caribou Inuits, parkas made of skins and sometimes fur were a necessary shield from the inclement weather in the Northwest Territories. The word ‘parka’ is derived from the Nenets language and means ‘animal skin’. Interestingly, it is the only Nenets word that has entered and remained in the English language. Originally made using caribou or seal skin, the hides gathered in summer would provide heavier, warmer coats (they were also used for tents, mittens and boots) , while spring skins created a sleeker, thinner coat often worn in layers.". KELLOGGS COMPANY (WITH POPULAR MECHANICS MAGAZINE)
Kellogg's Junior Craftsman Blue Print for 28 Inch Model Racing Yacht
Battle Creek, MI: Kellogg's Company, 1933. Hardcover. B&W Illustrations; This is one sheet, folded three times to form a small booklet. The booklet is in Very Good condition. The outer covers have some ground-in dirt, several spots of discoloration and a previous owner's inked name. The inner covers and the blueprint itself are in clean, bright condition. There is one small edge nick / tear to the bottom edge of the booklet. "Kellogg, like other cereal manufacturers, realized that he was producing a basically generic product and the only difference between him and the competition was what could be instilled in the public’s mind by advertising. An effective tool of such thinking is the premium—and a proliferation of booklets, dolls and other lures to attract and hold consumer loyalty followed. All of this is cause for today’s collectors to rejoice because these premiums have become a hobby all of their own. Such advertising items and ephemera are now today’s highly prized and greatly enjoyed acquisitions. From the very beginning, the company distributed many different health booklets. A good example of this is “The Modern Figure”, released in 1932 and reprinted for several years afterward. These pamphlets, usually free, strongly advocated a sensible approach to health, including proper eating habits. Naturally, eating Kellogg’s cereals came highly recommended! .". Very Good .

Nothing on the market met our needs, and after a conference with Father Bob and Doris Sheffer it was proposed to the membership that we make a Fiber Book of our own. It was decided that each fiber would have a page explaining what the fiber was, how it was packaged and what colors were available. In addition, we wanted to know if the color matched that of another product, what size mesh was most appropriate, the number of plys needed, needle size, stitchery tips and any other general information which would make stitching more effective." ; Signed by Author. "Stumpwork is a style of embroidery where the stitched figures are raised from the surface of the work to form a 3-dimensional effect. Stitches can be worked around pieces of wire to create individual forms such as leaves, insect wings or flower petals. This form is then applied to the main body of work by piercing the background fabric with the wires and securing tightly. Other shapes can be created using padding under the stitches, usually in the form of felt layers sewn one upon the other in increasingly smaller sizes. The felt is then covered with a layer of embroidery stitches." ; Signed by Author. Very Good+ .
