"Wassili Luckhardt (22 July 1889 in Berlin – 2 December 1972 in Berlin) was a German architect. He studied at the Technical University of Berlin (Technische Universität Berlin) and Dresden. Luckhardt and his brother Hans worked closely together for most of their lives. Both were members of the November Group (Novembergruppe) , the Arbeitsrat für Kunst, the Glass Chain and, from 1926, the progressive architecture group Der Ring. The brothers shared an office with the architect Alfons Anker (b. 1872, d. 1952). " "In the 1920s the brothers belonged to the 20th centuries rising architects. Originally Expressionist they then turned to modernism. Their buildings are typical examples with skeletons of steel or reinforced concrete. During National Socialism the Luckhardt brothers tried initially to reconcile their architecture with the new ruling powers and joined even the Nazi Party. It quickly became apparent however that the new regime required a different architectural language. They were professionally disqualified and could only build three single-family houses in this time, the exterior of which was made to blend in with the preferred style of the regime. " (both from Wikipedia). Good .

FREEMAN DOVASTON, 18 Views of the Ancient Priory Church of St. Bartholomew the Great West Smithfield, London
FREEMAN DOVASTON
18 Views of the Ancient Priory Church of St. Bartholomew the Great West Smithfield, London
London, England: Freeman Dovaston, 1923. Revised Edition. Booklet. B&W Illustrations; This is an oblong paperback book with cardstock covers and a stapled spine. The book covers have uncut edges and some light edge wear and rubbing to the spine ends, corners, and edges. The text pages are clean and bright. "In Rome, like many pilgrims, he (Rahere) fell ill. As he lay delirious he prayed for his life vowing that, if he survived, he would set up a hospital for the poor in London. His prayers were answered and he recovered. As he turned for home the vision of Saint Bartholomew appeared to him and said “I am Bartholomew who have come to help thee in thy straights. I have chosen a spot in a suburb of London at Smithfield where, in my name, thou shalt found a church. ” A “suburb” here means outside the walls of the City but not outside the City itself, whose boundary is defined by the “bars” (e. G. Temple Bar, Holborn Bar) True to his word Rahere set up both a church, a priory of Augustinian canons, and the hospital. He lived to see their completion – indeed he served as both prior of the priory and master of the hospital – and it is possible that he was nursed at Barts before his death in 1145. His tomb lies in the church." (from Wikipedia). Very Good+ .

"Sir Charles William Chadwick Oman, KBE, FBA (12 January 1860 – 23 June 1946) was a British military historian. His reconstructions of medieval battles from the fragmentary and distorted accounts left by chroniclers were pioneering. Occasionally his interpretations have been challenged, especially his widely copied thesis that British troops defeated their Napoleonic opponents by firepower alone. [citation needed] Paddy Griffith, among modern historians, claims that the British infantry's discipline and willingness to attack were equally important. " (from Wikipedia).
