ASIMOV, ISAAC
PEBBLE IN THE SKY
Garden City, NY, Doubleday & Company 1950, hb. 8vo, pp. 223.
¶ The prolific author's first book, in book club edition format. Bound in yellow cloth, with black spine lettering. The dust jacket is virtually the same as that for the trade edition, save for the words "Book club edition" on the front flap, and lacking the retail price. The boards are rubbed at the corners and the cloth shows soiling. The front endpaper is indiscernably split; rear endpaper perfect. The contents are clean. Overall, the book is in good condition. The jacket shows noticeable wear: chipping to the edges, and rubbing at the folds, with some scuffing overall, and a bit of soiling to the rear panel. Overall, the jacket is in fair to good condition.

BRADBURY, RAY
ICE-CREAM SUIT
London, The Amalgamated Press 1959, wrappers. A short story in the British magazine ARGOSY published May, 1959. small 8vo pp. 41 to 58.
¶ Written when Bradbury was 39, and published in the British literary monthly magazine ARGOSY (not to be confused with the American men's magazine, of the same name). Included are nine other stories by H. E. Bates, Michael Gilbert, David Walker and Christopher Landon et al, along with cartoons (144 pages in all). The first appearance of the story was in The Saturday Evening Post, Oct. 4, 1958, under the title: "The Wonderful Ice Cream Suit". The first appearance - in book form - came in April, 1972, when it was published as a paperback by Bantam (SP7297) under the general title of THE WONDERFUL ICE CREAM SUIT AND OTHER PLAYS (one of a trilogy of plays - the first hard cover edition came out the same year, in England). The short story appears to have kept roughly the same storyline as the play, and is illustrative of the development of an interesting concept in the author's mind. Clearly, this story is a seldom-discovered gem and would be a unique acquisition by any science fiction or Bradbury collector. The front cover is a bit curled, and slightly edge-worn. The spine is creased but not excessively so. The contents are slightly age-darkened, as is to be expected. Except as noted, this magazine is tight, clean and in very good condition.

BURROUGHS, EDGAR RICE
A FIGHTING MAN OF MARS
Tarzana, CA, Edgar Rice Burroughs, Inc. , hb. Ill.: b&w frontispiece. Bound in tan cloth with dark brown/red lettering. 8vo, pp. 319. First published in 1931, this is the 1948 reprint, with the Hugh Hutton frontispiece. Zeuschner 71.
¶ Boards bumped at corners and rubbbed at edges. Small stain to front board and some spotting to rear board. Binding cracking at mid-section of book. Free of previous owner's markings. About good minus condition. Wants dust jacket. Remember: when price-checking this book, many relatively inexpensive copies will be offered with the claim that the book is a first edition, and/or was published in 1931 when, in fact, the copy was actually published later. (Hint: any edition published by Burroughs, Inc., in a tan/gray binding is a reprint). Without the help of a thorough Burroughs' bibliography, such as Heins or Zeuschner, it is unfortunately easy for an uninformed bookseller to incorrectly describe this book. If in doubt - ask the dealer which bibliography was used to identify the book as a first edition. Cheaper is not always better.

Some other pages a bit rippled. Not quite as bad as it sounds, but a flaw, nonetheless. Some very light soiling and shelf wear to the boards.
