Japan Philatelic Magazine / January, 1940, Vol. 2, No. 1 to December, 1940, Vol. 2, No. 12 [12 Monthly Issues in One Volume]
Tokyo, Japan, Japan Postage Stamp Assoc. 1940. 1st printings.8vo,,Bound in purple buckram with faded Japanese lettering to spine,A very scarce philatelic journal, which commenced publication in March 1939, and continued monthly issues until 1948, when it changed its name to Yubin Kitte. No copies currently listed for sale, and WorldCat does not show any institutional holdings. The International Society for Japanese Philately reports four volumes for 1940 to 1943 in its holdings, but only one issue (No. 3, May, 1939) from the first volume. The publisher of this journal, The Japanese Postage Stamp Association, was founded in January, 1939, with the support of the Japanese Government Postal Administration and Baron Takaharu Mitsui (known as the 'Father of Japanese stamp collecting' and who was the first President of the JPSA). The binding of the bound copy which we offer for sale shows some wear. It is shaken, and the hinges are starting to crack but are still holding. Each of the monthly magazines is bound in with its title page, and each issue is in very good condition. Note: there are no records of this important philatelic journal ever having come to auction. Ill.: colour, b&w photographs. A complete run for the year 1940. The text is in English and Japanese.
