Boys' Adventure Stories
London, Sunshine Press, ND (c. 1935). 1st edition. Hardcover.Small 4to,,,A very scarce title in the Juvenile collecting genre. No copies currently for sale, and neither WorldCat nor COPAC lists any holdings. No date of puiblication shown, but there is an inscription on the half title page: 'Georgie from Billy H. / Xmas. 1935'. The book is hard bound with glossy paper over the boards, the front board showing a full-colour illustration of two boys sliding down a hill on a toboggan. The image is repeated on the dust jacket, included with this book. The book is illustrated with four colour plates (all present, including one by Cyrus Cuneo) and with line drawings throughout, and contains seven stories written to excite the imagination of young readers, e.g. 'The Secret of the Vault', 'A Prisoner in Peking', 'A Crocodile Adventure', etc. The authorship of each article is individually attributed. The text is printed on rather inferior news stock and now shows a bit of age-toning. The plates are printed on glossy stock, and are fine. The boards show rubbing at the edges. The binding is stressed, with separation beginning at about the middle of the book, but it still is quite intact. Other than the inscription, there is no marking to the text. The dust jacket has an open tear near the base of the spine and several large closed tears. We have repaired the jacket with archival quality tape and encased it in clear acetate. Ill.: Colour plates, line drawings. Unpaginated.

Little Folks Magazine
London, Cassell, ND (1910). Hardcover. pp. 476.Small 4to,,,Many interesting stories, articles, and illustrations. One illustrated story, by Murray Fisher, features the Golliwog character and a Rupert-like bear. There is an article by Olaf Baker entitled 'Round the World on an Aeroplane', a lovely full-colour plate by Mabel Lucie Attwell, and an illustrated poem by W. Gurney Benham called 'The Tiggly Wigglys'. Several of the drawings/cartoons would now no longer be considered politically correct. Somebody has spent rather a lot of time, and some money, restoring this book. The spine has been re-backed with new endpapers. Some of the pages have been repaired. The text block is well-thumbed at the edges, and the boards are rubbed at the edges, but the book may be read without trepidation. Ill.: colour, b&w illustrations.

Storytime
London, Blackie and Son Limited, ND. 1st edition. Hardcover.4to,,,It appears that the binding was previously cracked, and a former owner caused repairs to be done. All parts are present, and the hinges are not split (indeed the endpapers are in very good condition), but the book is tight to open and if pressed open too far would, no doubt, split apart. There is some light scribbling on a few pages, but nothing untoward. The colour pastedown on the front board is a bit scuffed and soiled, and rubbed at the edges. Overall, the book may be read with care, and is in fair to good condition. Ill.: colour, b&w illustrations. Stories for young children, with illustrations by Sylvia Venus (Enid Blyton's illustrator), D. Burton, M. L. Clements & others.

ALDIN, CECIL
Farm-Yard Puppies
London, Humphrey Milford, ND (1911). 1st edition. Hardcover. pp. 92,Small 4to,,Bound in original illustrated paper-covered boards,An early Aldin 'puppy' tale. No date of publication is shown but our research indicates that it was published in 1911. It contains twelve full-page illustrations, each signed in the plate by Aldin with his distinctive signature. There is a 13th illustration of the two puppies on the front board, under the title which is printed in bright red letters. The boards are rubbed at the edges, with small loss to the tips, and some light scuffing and soiling. The hinges are tight but the text block has partially separated from the spine. Each illustration is accompanied by a poem (dare we say 'doggerel'?). There has been some off-setting of the coloured illustrations to the following pages, but it is neither untoward nor extensive. Several pages have fingerprint smudges. Overall, the book remains in good condition. Ill.: colour illustrations. Aldin is both the writer and the illustrator. There are twelve full-page coloured prints of the mischievous puppies.

KNIPE, EMILY BENSON (ARTIST) AND WITH NEW STORIES AND VERSES BY ALICE CALHOUN HAINES
Girls and Boys
New York City, Frederick A. Stokes Company, 1905. 1st edition. Hardcover. [unpaginated],4to,,Bound in original cloth-backed illustrated boards,The first of a small series of 'Girls and Boys' titles published by Stokes with stories by Alice Calhoun Haines and illustrated by various noted artists. Other titles are 'Indian Boys and Girls' and 'Japanese Boys and Girls'. The boards of our copy are a bit bowed, well-worn and rather soiled. The front hinge is cracking. There is spotting to the margins throughout, although all plates, except the last, are untouched. The last plate, showing two boys in winter garb and old-fashioned ice skates hung around their necks, has three small abrasions across the face of one boy, resulting in loss of the colour. Except for marginal soiling, as noted, the other plates are unmarred. Overall, not a perfect copy, but in decent shape nonetheless. With eight quite lovely full-colour, full-page, plates after drawings by Emilie Benson Knipe.
