BRETHERTON, RALPH HAROLD
The Fiddle String
London, Wells, Gardner, Darlton & Co, 1906. 1st edition. Hardcover. pp. 167.Larger 12mo,,,Not much is known about this author, who wrote at least nine books, the majority of which were intended for children. His childrens' books appear to be 'psychological' in nature, dealing more with how a young child perceives the world, rather than how the world perceives, or relates to, the child. Copies of any of his titles, with the exception of 'The Child Mind' are quite scarce. Our offering, although referenced in WorldCat, is apparently not held in any institutional library. The red cloth binding, with bright gilt lettering to the spine, shows some light wear and a bit of soiling. There is what appears to be a felt marker 'slash' across the bottom edge of the text block. The binding is stressed but the contents are tight, with foxing to some of the preliminary pages. Overall, a good, to good plus, copy. Ill.: Ivor Symen frontispiece. This copy from the lending library of Boots Chemists, with their sticker on front board & lending label on rear pastedown.
