FORBES, GRAHAM B.
The Boys of Columbia High or The All Around Rivals of the School
New York City, Grosset & Dunlap, 1911. 1st edition. Hardcover. pp. 227, ads. Small 8vo. This is a very nice copy, indeed, the decorated cloth being fresh and unsoiled. There are two small holes in the joint of the front board, and one small hole to the joint of the rear board. The bottom outside corner of the rear board is slightly bumped. The former owner has affixed a circular 'globe' bookplate to the front free endpaper, and written his name in pencil within the circumference. The pages are exceptionally clean and the binding is tight. Were it not for the small holes in the gutter, and the bookplate, this copy could fairly be described as being in near fine, to fine, condition. Copies of this title are uncommon but not particularly scarce; however, the original dust jacket is now almost never seen; or, when it is, it is usually in poor condition. Our copy carries the original dust jacket which is in very good condition, with only a small chip to the base of the front panel and some very light chipping along the top edge. There is a small open tear to the bottom of the rear fold, and some overall very light soiling. Ill.: black-&-white illustrations. 'Graham B. Forbes' is a pseudonym used by the Stratemeyer Syndicate as the purported author of this series of eight boys' stories, published between 1911 and 1920. This title was the first of the series, first published in 1911 by Grosset & Dunlap (who were normally a reprint publisher).
