Illustrated with over 80 B&W plates from Blake's paintings, drawings, and engravings, along with facsimiles and photographs. Frontispiece in Vol. 1 of The Writings is a photograph of an actual life mask bust of Blake by Deville, 1823. Printed on Vidalon handmade paper under the supervision of Francis Meynell by the Chiswick Press, London. This was the first attempted collection of Blake's prose, and it contains many important letters and fragments that were previously unpublished. It is the first collection to contain all of the poetry and prose, and includes corrected texts of many poems.
