WOOD, J.T.,
Railway Pier Blackwall - Le Môle du Chemin de fer à Blackwall
Steel engraving on porcelain card, a publisher is mentioned but illegible, ca. 1870. It shows sail- and rowing boats as well as a paddle steamer in front of the railway pier. In very good condition.Porcelain card is a card with a coating that resembles porcelain. This was often used for trade cards, but also (as here) for series of mostly commercial prints. Production was ceased in the late 1800's / early 1900's, as the materials contained lead, which was toxic to the tradesmen creating these.
