Oval portrait of William, Count of Nassau-Siegen, in a decorated scroll border, and with a cartouche with four lines of Latin text. Etching and engraving on hand laid paper, sheet size 135 x 91 mm., carrier size 271 x 216 mm. Made by an anonymous printmaker, and published by Balthazar Moncornet, ca. 1610-1668. In good condition, cropped within platemark and attached to carrier sheet. Minimal paper loss in the top left corner. A collection stamp of 'Bibliotheek Rotterdam' (not in Lugt) on the verso, lower edge.

In very good condition, although cropped within platemark (with minimal loss of the border around the image).

Oval portrait of Anthony Hamilton (1646?-1719), writer and soldier. Etching and engraving on laid paper, sheet size 134 x 85 mm., platemark 130 x 81 mm. By an anonymous engraver. The caption 'Antoine Hamilton' is added in manuscript ink. Perhaps this is a proof printing. On the other hand, this might be a copy (in reverse) of the 1772 engraving by John Hall (as present in the National Portrait Gallery), as most of the elements of both dress and hair are exactly as in that engraving. In good condition, cropped close to the platemark, attached to a carrier sheet. Two faint and small dampstains in the image area.

Portrait of Frederik de Vries as young boy playing with Goltzius' dog. Frederik was the son of the painter Dirck de Vries, a pupil of Goltzius. The boy is trying to get on the back of the dog while holding a bird in his hand. On the cartouche below some text in Latin. The text on the bottom is about a boy and a dog. Anonymous copy in reverse with mention of the artist and the publisher, 'HGoltzius invent' and Claes Jansz. Visscher 'CIVisscher excudebat' (CVI monogrammed). On the verso collector's mark of C. En profil portrait of Kamehameha II (1797-1824), the second king of the Kingdom of Hawaii from 1819 to 1824. His birth name was Liholiho and full name was Kalaninui kua Liholiho i ke kapu ?Iolani. Stipple engraving with roulette, on wove paper, sheet size 213 x 141 mm., platemark 187 x 126 mm. Made by an anonymous engraver for The Lady's Magazine, 1824. In good condition, original binding holes in the right margin, minimal surface damage just beside the portrait, and a small stain in the shading. All but the far right edge of the sheet faintly browned. Some scattered spots of foxing in the margins.

Bust-length portrait of Sir Humphrey Davy (1778-1829), a British chemist and inventor. He invented the Davy lamp and an early form of arc lamp. He is also remembered for isolating several chemical elements for the first time: potassium and sodium in 1807 and calcium, strontium, barium, magnesium and boron the 1808, as well as for discovering the elemental nature of chlorine and iodine. Stipple engraving on wove paper, sheet size 210 x 134 mm. By an anonymous engraver after Henry Howard. Originally, this print was published in London, 1822. This version, (with part of a German caption visible in the lower right corner) was probably published around the same time. In good condition, cropped within platemark on the right and lower sides, attached to a carrier sheet by two corners.

By an anonymous engraver after Friedrich Georg Weitsch. Published in Meyers Konversationslexikon, c. 1860. Friedrich Georg Weitsch (Brunswick 1758-1828 Berlin) was a German (court) painter, etcher and art dealer. He was the son of Johann Friedrich (Pascha) Weitsch. In good condition, some discolouration in the margin corner lower right, a crease in the top left margin corner. A faint dampstain in the top right corner, partly covering the image area.

Aquatint portrait in etched decorative border, on hand laid paper, sheet size 231 x 173 mm., anonymous aquatint, published in the series 'Collection générale des Portraits de MM. les Députés à l'Assemblée Nationale Constituante, tenue à Versailles le 4. Mai 1789'. This series was published by Nicolas-François Le Vachez in 1789. In very good condition, cropped within platemark. Margin edges very faintly soiled, a small stain in the top right corner of the image area.

Oval portrait of Prince William Augustus, Duke of Cumberland (1721-1765), the third son of King George II and his wife, Caroline of Ansbach. He was Duke of Cumberland from 1726. He is best remembered for his role in ending the Jacobite Rising at the Battle of Culloden in 1746. Allegorical frontispiece, with the oval portrait on an obelisk, with mythological figures near the obelisk, and a herald angel above. In the background are mourning 'paupers ... weeping at their sad Change'. Engraving on hand laid paper, with hand colouring, attached to carrier sheet. Sheet size 178 x 108 mm., carrier size 211 x 142 mm. Anonymous engraving, the frontispiece for vol. 34 of the London Magazine (1765). In good condition, cropped within platemark.

Oval portrait of Louis XVIII, (Louis Stanislas Xavier; 1755-1824), known as the Desired. He was King of France from 1814 to 1824, except for a period during the Hundred Days in 1815. Etching and engraving on wove paper, sheet size 309 x 403 mm., engraved by Pierre Audouin (1768-1822) after Pierre Bouillon (1776-1831), who made a painting of the bust by Achille Valois (1785-1862) in 1814. Printed by François-Dominique Ramboz (active 1787-1819), and published by Audouin, ca. 1817. In fair condition, top edge cropped within platemark, other edges cropped close to the platemark. A small tear in the margin top right, a crease in the margin top left. Some light soiling in the left side of the image area, two tears (with old restorations) in the left edge and caption. Guillaume Laud, Archevesque de Canterbury, Primat d'Angleterre
Portrait of William Laud (1573-1648), a bishop in the Church of England. He was appointed Archbishop of Canterbury in 1633 by Charles I. Laud was a key advocate of Charles I's religious reforms. For this he was arrested in 1640 and executed towards the end of the First English Civil War in January 1645. Engraving on laid paper, sheet size 300 x 174 mm. Engraved by Benoît II Audran after the painting by Adriaen van der Werff (Kralingen 1659 - Rotterdam 1722). This print was published in: Larrey, Isaac de. Histoire d'Angleterre, d'Écosse et d'Irlande. Rotterdam: Reinier Leers, 1697-1713. Benoît II Audran (Paris 1698-1722) was one of the later Audran family members who became an engraver. The Audran family contained numerous painters and engravers, from Charles (1594-1674) and Claude Audran (1597-1675). The family was active around Paris and Lyon. Into the 19th century, members of the family would instruct their children or other family members in the art of engraving. In very good condition, although cropped within platemark. Remains of mounting on the verso.
