Seated old man with a stick
Johannes Pieter de Frey (1770-1834) after the 1645 portrait by Rembrandt in the Museu Calouste Gulbenkian, Lisbon. The painting was formerly attributed to Philips Koninck, hence the presence of his name in the lower margin. Etching on laid paper, platemark 209 x 151 mm., sheet size 261 x 375 mm. Beautiful impression with ample margins. A small tear in the lower margin (well outside image area), margins very mildly soiled. Literature: LeBlanc 25, Dutuit 50 (III/3)

Oval portrait of Ferdinand Ambros Fidler, bust-length, turned to the left and looking forward. The oval rests on a plinth, on which an open book. Engraving on hand laid paper, sheet size 163 x 95 mm., engraved by Johann Christian Gottfried Fritzsch after a design by Georg David Matthieu, dated 1773. Johann Christian Gottfried Fritzsch (Hamburg c. 1720-1802/03) was a German engraver, the son of Christian Fritzsch and brother of Christian Friedrich Fritzsch. Georg David Matthieu (Berlin 1737-1778 Ludwigslust) was a German engraver and portrait painter in the Rococo style who worked as court painter for the Duke of Mecklenburg. In good condition, cropped within platemark, a few small spots in the lower edge.

Engraving on hand laid paper, sheet size 205 x 325 mm., platemark 168 x 247 mm., engraving by Cornelis Galle (I) (1576-1650) after Anthony van Dyck (1599-1641), published ca. 1610-1650. In very good condition: some creasing in the top left margin corner, and a crease from the left margin into the middle of the image. Clean and crisp impression with ample margins.
