Brussel, Hermanus van (1763-1815)

Good impression, clear and bright. some staining on the edges, Hermanus van Brussel was a painter and etcher, working in Haarlem and Utrecht. Trained as publisher, but entered St Luke Guild in 1797. 1796-1810 director of Academy of Haarlem ('Teekenacademie'); 1810 moved to Utrecht where he made at least one etching. Painted mainly landscapes; sixty etchings of which forty-five landscapes (none dated, few initialled); also designer and painter of theatre sets. l Etching on paper with broad margins, 1802-1810, Sliggers 27, 3rd state of 3. Some staining in the marges.
