Accompanied by a description explaining the rules to a dice game. The winner receives the title ‘Ridder van het Metalen Kruis’ (Knight of the Metal Cross).Rotterdam, T.J. Popular religious print with two images. The left showing Our Lady of Scherpenheuvel up in a tree, with bellow her pilgrims praying. Below the image is a prayer to the Holy Mother of God. After a miraculous image of Mary appeared in an Oak tree there in the late Middle Ages, Scherpenheuvel became one of the first pilgrimage destinations in Belgium. On the right a crucified Christ, with Mary mourning at the foot of the cross. The image is surrounded by a prayer for the blessing of a new home. Good condition, complete. Full leather, 17th century, with decorated spine, with title and 6 ribs. Red spotted decoration on the cuts. One joint is partly cracked. (20)+670 p., illustrated with several woodcuts. A richly illustrated Italian incunable, written by the Augustinian hermit Jacobus Philippus, with many city illustrations. The work begins with the creation of the world and summarizes the most important historical facts until the 15th century. Copy from the famous library of Antwerp cartographer Abraham Ortelius (1527-1598) with his name in handwriting at the bottom of the title page. Some 16th century annotations in the margins, in the same ink colour and handwriting as the owner's mark of Ortelius on the title page. Some of these annotations are partly cut off, so we can determine that the book was rebound and cut after the annotations. It is cut off quite short.
