The Christian's Complete Family Bible, or Library of Divine Knowledge ...Containing the sacred texts of the Old & New Testaments
Liverpool. Printed by Nuttal, Fisher & Dixon, 1808....A very large family Bible which belonged to George Grundy who was born 1790 at Middle Hulton in Lancashire. In 1830 he married Jane who was born 1807 in Pulford, Cheshire. They had 10 children, all born in Middle Hulton & lived on a farm called Busils. All the children's names & dates are written by George (or Jane) in the front. A large, very heavy Bible, the leather cover is soft, like suede, and is bumped & worn on corners. Contents are very good considering its over 200 years old. 39.25cm. x 24cm. Illustrated with many b./w. engravings. Sadly the front endpage, (which has the family tree written on back) the frontispiece & title page are still attached to the front cover ... but detached from the rest of the Bible. George died 1865. Weighs about 4k. before packing. 1808

HOLY BIBLE. (Formerly owned by Earlam/Williams/Birchwood/Hartley/Park etc.families)
Manchester. Printed & Published by J. Gleave of 196 Deansgate. Not dated but probably circa 1820., The Holy Bible with a Complete Commentary ...containing the Apocrypha, and the New Testament., Embelished with Elegant Engravings." Bound in an embossed leather cover, the spine has elaborate decoration in gilt (click on scan) the first owner's initials & date (1820) are printed on the bottom of the front cover, and his daughter's husband's printed on the top of the front cover, with date 1862. This is a beautiful Family Bible, with connections to the Williams, Birchwood, Erlam, Park and Hartley families. The first entries are Charles Williams born 1799 at Frodsham, and Ann Birchwood, born 1796 at Clotton in Cheshire, the later entries are in Liverpool. It is very large, 16.5" x 10.75" (42.5 cm.x 27 cm. ) very thick and very heavy, at least 8 kg. when packed, so postage within the UK, (as far as I know) will be about £18.00 for first class. One page of family history is loose, and some edges of the first few pages have been re-enforced, the title page is very foxed, some engravings are foxed, otherwise contents are clean. The decorated leather cover is worn & rubbed on edges & corners. The front hinge has split so the front cover is detached from the book, the back cover and spine are still attached.
