Signatures DD3 and EE4 with marginal repair, light age toning, some very light signs of creasing to some plates, marbled e.ps., bound by Zaehnsdorf in half crush red morocco with red cloth boards, some marking and light fading in part to cloth, intricate gilt tooled spine with gilt lettering, a.e.g.
¶ Watermark text 1814-1815; Plates (dated 1813-1815) 1821. Abbey 521; Prideaux p348 ‘The best of all the books on Wales is the Cambria Depicta of Edward Pugh, the drawings for which took ten years to complete. In the preface the author speaks of the multiplication of illustrations of the same scenes owing to the fact that most travellers, being ignorant of the language of the country, never left the frequented routes, and he claims all his drawings are new to the public’; Tooley 386; Allibone 170. Edward Pugh (c.1761-1813) painter and topographical writer. ‘.. An account accompanied by seventy of his own engraved drawings of outstanding vitality and variety.
