Some light browning, with the signature of ‘Anne Newburgh 1837,’ early cloth backed boards, sl. chipped paper title label to sl. bumped spine, minor marking and signs of wear, corners bumped and lacking portion to leading corner of lower board.
¶ Apparently the first edition of the above work published in 1819 was the first book to be printed in Ross on Wye. Thomas Dudley Fosbroke [Fosbrooke], (1770–1842), antiquary. ODNB ‘... in 1810 Fosbrooke accepted the curacy of Walford, near Ross, Herefordshire, with the neighbouring parochial chapelry of Ruardean, Gloucestershire; he moved to Walford in 1811. For eighteen years he had studied for eight hours or more a day ... He also wrote tourist guides, the most popular being [the above] (1818; 6th edn, 1841) ...’
