Used; Like New Edward Garrison's work on early Italian panels resulted in the publication in 1949 of the first comprehensive index of Romanesque Italian panel painting, which remains the standard work of reference on the subject. Subsequently, his four-volume Studies in the History of Medieval Italian Painting, published in Florence between 1953 and 1962, represents the most considerable body of research yet published on Italian miniature and panel painting from the eleventh to the thirteenth centuries. Prague Praha, 1945. Stapled card covers decorated in red and black with Capek graphic, b/w plates, one colour tipped-in plate. Very good, paper yellowing. Text in Czech. Used; Very Good Czech artist and brother of Karel Capek, best known as a painter, but also a writer and poet. He invented the word 'robot', which was famously introduced into literature by his brother. As a cartoonist, he worked for Lidové Noviny, a newspaper based in Prague. He was arrested in 1939 and perished in Bergen-Belsen. Paperback.

Tokyo, UNAC, 1974. Limited to 1,000 copies. Not signed but Kitagawa's photograph (age 76) loosely inserted with presentation in Spanish (Al Amigo Thorstein Tamiji 76 years old). to back. Cloth backed, landscape format in original stapled slipcase with paper on-lay to all sides. Minor tearing to slipcase edges, with yellowing to on-lay. Minor yellowing to edges internally. Unpaginated. With some 30 colour (some litho) reproductions of the artist's work and of text. Two are signed 'Tamiji' in pencil. Used; Very Good A Japanese painter he took part in the "Mexican Renaissance". from 1923. He became friends with artists such as David SIQUEIROS and Diego RIVERA. He was a pupil of the Open Air School of Painting promoted by Alfredo Ramos Martinez. Kitagawa assimilated and adopted the pictorial methods of the schools of Tlalpan and Taxco, which he took back to Japan in 1936. There he introduced the Mexican style of depicting landscape and people, at the same time enriching it with local traditions such as the Ukiyoe. This brought him prestige and recognition as a Japanese painter. Hardback.

Celebrated anti-Fascist Czech caricaturist, poet, novelist, editor of Lidové noviny, Hoffmeister led a remarkable life in Czechoslovakia, France and the USA. In 1920, he with Karel Teige founded Devetsil, the association of Czech avant-garde artists.
