(One small cloth sample pasted on opposite page).Publisher's light green printed wrappers with cotton tie, embossed colour illustration on front cover. Minor restoration to wrappers. A very attractive and impressive catalogue lavishly illustrated including samples of cloth in various qualities and colours. According to the preface this sample book represents "the very backbone of the American Textile Industry and behind them are the unqualified guarantees of responsible manufacturers and merchants". A handsome copy of a rare survival.

Old ownership signature on title-pages. First scarce edition. Anne Grant (born MacVicar) was born in Scotland in 1755, and as a child settled in America with her parents, her father being stationed there as a British officer. Several years were spent in Albany, New York where Anne stayed with a family Schuyler. She wrote this account about 40 years after her return to Scotland. Sabin 28296.

Contemporary half calf, spine with five raised bands and title label, restored. Later endpapers. Bookplate (Robert Murray) and old ownership signatures on front paste down. First edition of one of the most important works about the history of the Swedish settlements on the Delaware river. It deals with political and ecclesiastical history, customs and manners, mines, commerce, houskeeping, natural resources etc. Acrelius (1714-1800), a Swedish clergyman, was sent in 1749 as Provost of the Swedish congregations in New Sweden (Pennsylvania). He served for 7 years before he had to return to Sweden due to bad health. This work was translated into English in 1874. Howes A34. Larson 3.

He stayed in Boston with Swedish Americans where he very much enjoyed the theatrical and musical atmosphere. “Exellent chapters on Boston and on American women and family life” (Larson). Contemporary half calf, spines ruled in gilt and with red title labels, rubbed. Volume three's spine ends expertly restored. Old ownership signatures on titles. Scarce first edition of this early Swedish valuable account on American natural history. Pehr Kalm (1716-79), Finnish - Swedish botanist and economist, was sent by Linnť to North America between 1748-51 to study the flora and collect specimens of plants and seeds to bring back to Sweden. Unfortunately many of the seeds and plants died on the way home. His narrative comprises the stay in England, the Atlantic voyage, the visits to Delaware, Pennsylvania, New Jersey, New York, Oregon and also his travels within Canada (to Montreal, Quebec and Lorette). Streeter ii, 823: "One of the most important and reliable 18th century accounts of Amercian natural history, social organization, and political situation". A fourth part written in 1777 was never published. The manuscript and his diaries were kept at the Academy of Ňbo but destroyed during a fire in 1927.
