A collection of fourteen volumes of the religious journal Teny Soa which was published by the London Missionary Society from 1866. Text in romanised Malagasy throughout. Bound in original blind stamped cloth (eight vols) and others in contemporary calf, half calf or cloth, more or less worn.The major part of the Malagasy literary heritage was oral and because of the colonialism the emergence of Malagasy literature had been inhibited. In 1818 the London Missionary Society began their work on the island and the first printing office was started in 1827. Literary Malagasy evolved in the second half of the 19th century. The first journal to appear was Teny Soa which published works by prose writers and poets.
