This is a classic mountaineering work of a scientific expedition to the Ruwenzori on the borders of Congo and Uganda in 1906. These snowy mountains drain into the lakes that feed the Nile, making them the true source of the river. Many explorers had tried to ascend these peaks but had never succeded. The Duke's expedition was the first to truly explore and document the range.

Dahomey was a West African kingdom (situated in today's Southern Benin) from the beginning of the 17th century up until 1904. Forbes, a British naval officer made two journeys to visit the Court of the King with the unsuccessful mission to convince him to end involvement in the slave trade. Forbes' journals include descriptions of the inhabitants, their customs, culture and vocabularies of the Vahie and Dahoman languages. Gay 2878.

Götzen was a German explorer and the first governor of German East Africa. He led this expedition through Rwanda and became the first European to visit Lake Kivu. First edition of an early informative account of Morocco devoted to the government, commerce, geography, religion, the various inhabitants (Arabs, Brebers, Mauri people, etc.) and their language and customs. Probably the first Western work dealing with the Moroccan-Arabic dialect. George Höst served as Danish Consul at Mogador for about eight years in the 1760s.
