With extra engraved title, one large folding engraved portrait, nine engraved maps (three folding), five engraved plates (three folding) and several engraved vignettes and woodcut initials. Two titles are printed in red and black. Contemporary vellum, title in MS on spine, stained and worn, but internally crisp and fine. First edition of this monumental work on the Holy Land. Reland (1676-1718) was a noted Oriental scholar already fluent in Hebrew and Arabic at the age of 25. He was appointed professor of oriental languages and ecclesiastical antiquities at Utrecht. This informative geographical work on the Holy Land is based mainly on ancient sources but with critical reviews of the maps. The third part comprises a topographical dictionary of the Bible. The second French edition of this important work on the Ottoman Empire mainly based on Rycaut's personal experiences. Second edition (first 1853) of a charming travelogue. The author was a Syrian Christian raised in Lebanon who gives an interesting account of life among the native Christian population in Lebanon. "The work consists of a mixture of autobiographical anecdotes, travels, and information on Syria and Lebanon. There is also an amusing chapter on how a young Syrian sees England, plus a very interesting account of silk-worm culture". Cf Blackmer 1427.

. Pp. (viii), xvi, 244. Title printed within a decorated border and with a medallion of Christ. Wide margins. Contemporary full calf, gilt decorated borders on covers, gilt dentelles on inner edges, spine richly gilt and with red title label, slightly rubbed and front hinges starting. Light stain to outer margins. Giovanni Bernardo De Rossi (1742-1831), was an Italian Christian Hebraist who in 1769 became professor of Oriental languages at the University of Parma. He studied the early history of Hebrew printing and compiled "Dizionario Storico degli Autori Ebrei e delle Loro Opere" at Parma 1802. This is an early, beautiful work by him printed by Giambattista Bodoni, the famous Italian engraver and typographer.

André du Ryer, a noted orientalist who served in the consulate in Alexandria in the 1620s and later as an interpreter to the French ambassador in Istanbul. Bustan (The Orchard) is entirely in verse and consists of a vast collection of anecdotes which illustrate the standard virtues recommended to Muslims. Not in Diba nor in Wilson.

For the first time in print a substantial part of "Thousand and One Nights" in Arabic has been included. At end an additional part about Sindbad the Sailor by Langlès which in 1814 was published separately with the title "Les voyages de Sind-Bád le Marin, et la Ruse des femmes".
