Reland (1676-1718) was a noted Oriental scholar already fluent in Hebrew and Arabic at the age of 25. He was appointed professor of oriental languages and ecclesiastical antiquities at Utrecht. This informative geographical work on the Holy Land is based mainly on ancient sources but with critical reviews of the maps. The third part comprises a topographical dictionary of the Bible. Light stain to outer margins. Giovanni Bernardo De Rossi (1742-1831), was an Italian Christian Hebraist who in 1769 became professor of Oriental languages at the University of Parma. He studied the early history of Hebrew printing and compiled "Dizionario Storico degli Autori Ebrei e delle Loro Opere" at Parma 1802. This is an early, beautiful work by him printed by Giambattista Bodoni, the famous Italian engraver and typographer.
