Life on a small farm when he was a boy he spent summers with his grandparents. See his grandparents againg, the farm become marginal, and finally, the cows sold and the barn abandoned. But these are nostalgic memories for in measured and ender prose of each episode are signs of the end of things -- a childhood, perhaps a culture. in an epilogue written for this edition he deecribed his returnvto the farm for the rest of his life in the house of string. Inscribed by author on title page "for Jack, These old stories Donald Hall 26 July 1990" Jack was Jack Barnes, Hiram ME author.
