An offprint is produced by the publisher's of journals in very small quantities, with the usual intention of allowing the author to present them to friends or colleagues and for review. The printing is done simultaneously with the main journal, and then they are bound up in specially printed wrappers with the author's name and title printed. They are considered quite collectable and desirable due to their intimate connection to the author of the work, rather than the more mass produced nature of the full journal. The Royal Asiatic Society is dedicated to the serious study of the culture, history and languages of Asia. Founded in 1823 by the Sanskrit scholar Sir Henry Thomas Colebrooke, and has counted many distinguished and important explorers, writers and eminent individuals among its members, including Sir Richard Burton (1821-90), Rabindranath Tagore (1861-1941), and Sir Wilfred Thesiger.
