"The 'Karoo Characters' were chosen randomly; people at their place of work, or simply those with interesting backgrounds or occupations. All are based in Hanover, a small town in the so-called Bo-Karoo, Northern Cape. Founded in 1856, Hanover is situtated on the N1 highway exactly halfway between Johannesburg and Cape Town. Olive Schreiner, the famous South African writer, lived here from 1900 to 1907 and was well known for her outspoken views during the Anglo-Boer war.".
