This ancient office disappears, and its varied functions, chiefly of an executive and non-judicial character, are now conferred upon the official who, for the area corresponding to the field-cornetcy or ward for which the field-cornet exercised his functions, holds the office of justice of the peace. It may be observed that the title of field-cornet is now frequently applied to the second officer of a rifle association.".

Pilanesberg is one of the oldest and largest volcanic complexes on earth. You may find ... the largest, or the fastest, or one of the most endangered land mammals on earth; or the largest flightless bird, just one of over 300 species of birds in the Park; or some of the thousands of plant, insect or reptiles species. Of course, one can never hope to see it all, but Pilanesberg's magic will be found in its unique geology, its ancient and extraordinary history, in the diversity of life and in looking for the big game. One of the best wildlife experiences that you can hope for is waiting for you, if you know where and how to look. Use this book to help you.".
