There is an easy reference herb and ailment chart at the back of the book. For example, should you be suffering from rheumatism, severe bronchitis, nausea or painful corns, the chart will immediately point to the most effective remedy. Joan van Gogh's full colour illustrations are exquisitely detailed and botanically accurate to ensure instant identification of each herb and plant described in the book. Not only is MARGARET ROBERTS' BOOK OF HERBS a practical handbook, it is also highly entertaining, and an attractive addition to any bookshelf.".

VOGTS, MARIE MURRAY
Proteas: Ken en Kweek Hulle. Oor Die Kweek Van Die Suid-Afrikaanse Proteaceae
(Johannesburg: Afrikaanse Pers, [1959]). . 4to; lettered in silver gilt on spine, and with silver gilt device to upper cover; pictorial dustwrapper; pp. 201, incl. index; line drawings and photographs. Dustwrapper a bit rubbed and edgeworn, with tear at tail of lower panel spine fold; ownership inscription and hand-stamp to front free endpaper; tape marks to flaps and endpapers; archival tape reinforcing to lower hinge. Good condition. Afrikaans text.

VOGTS, MARIE
South Africa's Proteaceae. Know Them and Grow Them
(Cape Town: Struik, 1982). . 4to; original grey boards, lettered in white and silver gilt on spine; no dustwrapper; endpaper map; pp. 240, incl. index; profusely illustrated with beautiful, full-colour photographs; some line drawings. Edges of boards very slightly rubbed. Very good condition. "Scientists are not always good communicators, but Dr Vogts is one of the exceptions. In this book, she has presented the best broad overview of the South African Proteaceae that the general reader could wish to find. There are easy-to-use identification guides, synopses of practically all recognized species, as well as the salient details of current cultivation practices. She has been most ably assisted by two equally dedicated devotees, Dr Colin Paterson-Jones, whose photographs so brilliantly illuminate the text, and Peter Slingsby, whose meticulous draughtsmanship fills in the details that neither prose nor camera can capture. They are a formidable team and they have made a beautiful book. It is also an important book. No other major plant family in South Africa has been accorded such comprehensive treatment in a work aimed at the informed general reader.".
