BEATON, CECIL
Cecil Beaton's New York
B T Batsford Ltd. London. 1938, First Edition. Hardcover, with dust jacket. Ill.: Beaton, Cecil and others. 261 pages (complete). A much owned copy. Beaton loved New York. His sense of style, the form and sensation of a place, the people fill this book. Predictably his details about Greta Garbo are scarce. (His amitiƩ with the reclusive star, revealed later but much rumoured then, was almost certainly more amoureuse and intime, but intriguing nonetheless). Otherwise, the book bubbles with gossip and verve. The covers of this copy are much worn, marked and scuffed all about. The are sound and secure. Within, the contents are gently aged. There is foxing throughout. Despite this, the pages are mild-mannered, thick, clear, confident, convivial, tight. fk. Fair/No Jacket.
