This novel of a petty criminal who finds it difficult to reintegrate into society after a spell in prison closely resembles Fallada's experience (when he was imprisoned for fraud and theft due to his drug addictions). The book too, closely details the way of life in Germany as the Nazis were enforcing their power. Indeed, Fallada was in much trouble with the Nazis as this book was published. This copy is in benign condition. The boards are worn, scuffed and marked all about. The corners are worn, the spine has much wear to the head and foot.
