An important edition: ".this is the first time that Paul and Virginia of St Pierre has appeared in an English dress; all the previous editions having been disfigured by impertinent interpolations, and mutilated by numerous omissions and alterations, which had the effect of reducing it from the rank of a philosophical tale to the level of a mere story for children. Nonetheless, the pages are thick, confident, certain, clear and convivial, amiable, companionable, competent, comfortable, often fresh-faced and keen.
