Bates, the Assistant-Secretary and Editor of this edition, was the first to give a scientific account of animal mimicry. The legacy of his travels in the Amazon were and still are of great importance. This edition includes articles: "Account of Mr Baine's Exploration of the Gold-bearing Region between the Limpopo and Zambesi Rivers", "Account of an Excursion into the Interior of Southern Arabia" by Captain S B Miles (an Arabist of some note; he discovered that both India and Arabia were using a measurement once used in ancient Nineveh) and Werner Munzinger and "Journal of an Expedition to explore the country from West Australia to Port Eucla, and thence to Adelaide, South Australia" by John Forrest. The blue boards are mild-mannered. They have light shelving wear to the edges, some scuffing and handling marks. They are steady and sure. The gilt titling on the spine is fresh.
