The marbled boards are worn, marked, sunned. They are placid. The spine has scuffing, wear. It is healthy and sure. The contents are pleasing. The front and other pages have spots, blots of foxing. A VERY RARE copy of this most important edition of the Journal of the Geographical Society in Paris, as it contains - exclusively and for the first time - a report from Arthur Rimbaud of his arrival in Harar and the conditions there and the region. Quarter leather. Marbled boards. The boards have shelving wear, shelving and storage marks. The spine is benign, worn with a faded label. The spine and the boards are steady and sound. Please note that pp46-47 have some wear to the body of the page. The half-title page has a short closed tear. The contents have shallow blotches, flushes, spotting (particularly to the early and later pages) of foxing. The boards have scuffing, handling and shelving marks. The leathered corners for both volumes are worn, marked. The leather spine for volume I is much worn, cracked. It is resolute. Volume II's spine also has some wear and cracking. It is healthier and more august than its companion. Despite all of this the spines and boards are secure and sure. The contents are mild-mannered. They are generally clean, clear, convivial, amenable, occasionally flocked with foxing, tight, generous, more than competent, keen.
