FISCHETTI, LUIGI
Pompeii, Past and Present. Illustrated by Photographs of the Ruins As They Are, with Sketches of Their Original Elevations
The Author, Naples. 1895, 3rd Edition. Hardcover. Complete. 43 tipped-in plates of "before" and "current" vistas / views. A very rare copy of this third edition. Probably signed by Fischetti with the legend: ". The copies without the author's signature are considered counterfeited". Previous owner signatures (J A Smelhkamp Naples (Pomepii) 2 January 1899). These are very neat. The title page certifies that this edition is "Made on the first and published at London by William Clowes and Sons in 1884". A much owned. The storage has been deleterious. The Roman red boards have wear, stains and marks. They are placid and benign, sound and elderly. Within, there is wear to the binding. But, this is mild and does not affect the facility and utility of the book. The page edges have some wear from storage. This does not invade the body of the pages. Pages have wear and marks from use and age. However, they are more than competent, they are sure and assured, they are genial and generous, clear and certain. A book, that despite its wear, will give much enjoyment and learning. fk. Fair/No Jacket. Signed.
