All five are in thrillingly pleasing condition. All plates are present and are in excellent condition. The clear front page has scuffing, rubbing, handling marks. The edges of the pages are occasionally smeared with age-related tanning. There are some few indications of age and use. Volume 5 (pub: 1798) has a folded map engraved by the young Dutch cartographer, Cornelis van Baarsel: "Kaart van het Zuidelyk gedeelte van Afrika tot verstand van de twee Reizen van Le Vaillant". Printed on thick hand-made, watermarked, paper. The map is in stunning condition: thick, clean (the rims have some very shallow handling and storage marks) and clear, very healthy. Also please note that the pagination of Volume 5 was printed incorrectly towards the end, these were corrected by hand (at time of publication?). The pages of all volume are in tremendous condition: very clean and clear, thick, hale, fresh-faced, sound, certain, keen, barely marked by age and hand.
