The books are housed in a sturdy, healthy slipcase. The slipcase has wear, scuffing, marks from storage and use. It is strong. The three books are fully bound in claret coloured leather. The boards are neat, clubbable. The books are separated with thick card protectors. All three have, on their front pastedowns, ex-libris plates showing previous ownership by Edna and Frank Bradlow, the well known Africana experts and collectors. Volume I: "General History and Social Life of the Cape of Good Hope". Signed and inscribed (to Frank Bradlow) by Botha, on the title page. A mild-mannered copy. The papertrims and contents have shallow smudges of foxing throughout. In general, the contents are assured, serious, clean, clear. Volume II: "History of Law, Medicine and Place Names in the Cape of Good Hope". Signed by Botha on the title page. The papertrims are flecked with foxing. The early and later pages are smudged with foxing. However, the pages are dignified, clean, clear, confident. Volume III: "Cape Archives and Records". Signed by Botha on the title page. The contents and papertrims have smears of very light foxing here and there throughout. The pages are generously clean and clear, assured, pleasing. fk. Very Good/No Jacket. Signed.

The slipcase is worn and scuffed all about. It is competent for purpose. The volumes are bound in red leather. They are in general, smart and agreeable. Volume I: "General History and Social Life of the Cape of Good Hope". The page trims are foxed. Within, the early and later pages have blushes of foxing and rusting. Otherwise, they are comfortable and clear. Volume II: "History of Law, Medicine and Place Names in the Cape of Good Hope". As with Volume I, the page trims are foxed. The contents have flushes of foxing here and about. Otherwise, the contents are mild-mannered, comfortable, confident. Volume III: "Cape Archives and Records". Similar condition to Vols I & II, however the contents are largely creamy, clean, clear and very confident. fk. Very Good/No Jacket.

The dustjacket has wear from handling and storage. It has marks, scratches. It is however, placid. The cloth covered boards are tranquil. They have very mild wear about the edges from shelving. Otherwise, they are healthy and sturdy. The contents are in excellent order. Two satin book markers (one blue, one white) are attached. The contents are clean, clear, generous, elegant, tidy, fresh - as if new throughout! fk. Fine/Good.
